Known as San Diego’s second downtown, University City is one of San Diego’s best places to live. Named for housing the University of California East Campus, University City is also known for being home to multiple medical facilities and technology companies. University City also has excellent public schools. Westfield UTC, a sprawling upscale mall in the center of the neighborhood, provides residents with upscale retailers, trendy restaurants, a year-round skating rink, and more. Renting in University City places you minutes away from the amazing outdoor opportunities SoCal is known for. Go hiking at the Rose Canyon Open Space Park or travel miles a few miles west and spend some time in the water at the La Jolla Cove. For even more shopping, dining, and entertainment options, Downtown San Diego is about 20 minutes south. Rentals in this charming, laid-back locale are mid-range to upscale and include everything from Mediterranean-style single-family homes to luxury student housing.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at La Jolla Palms Apartment Homes
My neighbors are great and people living here are some of the best I've ever met, but given my current situations I would never live here again. Please avoid living in the south side of La Jolla Palms if you can. It has been the worst experience so far since I moved to San Diego. The management team didn't inform us that there would be a construction site near us when we signed the lease last year and the construction operates everyday M-F from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM with **extreme noise** (~50db when windows are closed, ~60-70 db when windows are opened) - we couldn't sleep well at all in the morning. Also, the dust of construction has caused some **allergy** for us which is terrible. Even more, this company just wants your money. The monthly rent in our renewal offer during this COVID-19 pandemic, the excessive noise and dust caused by the nearby construction site doesn't even get down despite that units that are less severely affected by all those environmental factors have a much lower rent for new leases. I tried to contact the management to negotiate this obviously unfair price and they did NOT reply to me for 3-4 days and the renewal offer will only hold for 15 days. I would've never signed the lease with La Jolla Palms if I knew all these nightmares. Avoid it as possible as you could.
I was a former resident of the apartment. In general it was fine, staff are nice there. About the maintenance, during the COVID-19 period, the trash room was not often cleaned. It seems that they only cleaned up the trash room once a week. Normally at the end of the week you will see bunch of trash in the trash room. When we moved out in early of the month, we were charged for a extra month of rent. As they said, they tried to contact us by email or mailbox asking us whether we would move out on time, but the only thing we got was emails asking us to renew our lease. So we should be responsible for the extra month of rent even if we moved out on time because we did not inform them we would move out on time and prevent them from renting it to others. And it is interesting that someone else is moving in at the end of the month we moved out. I will recommend this apartment if you are really rich.

Should you have any additional questions related to the terms of your lease or your final account charges, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Resident Services Office for further assistance. Best, The La Jolla Palms team
I hate living here. 1. I have had thousands of dollars of packages stolen from my door step. We've even had our welcome mat stolen. Our neighbors have had their cars broken into and the leasing office did nothing to alert the community to crime. 2. EVERYONE smokes here 3. The apartments look like they're from the 90s. Carpeting throughout, dated appliances, horrible bland bathrooms. In dire need of updating. 4. The 5000 elevator is slow, actually ALL the elevators are slow. Don't expect to leave in a hurry to go anywhere. 5. The walls are paper thin, you can hear everything from every apartment around you and the street. 6. Don't expect a decent view of anything if you don't live by the pool. 7. The walkways have puddles of dog urine. PUDDLES of yellow, I kid you not. 8. The worst part is leasing, when you need anything from them they act like it is a chore and have zero ability to do anything to keep up community standards.

I love living here. Every time I come HOME, I feel like I'm checking into a hotel ... It even has an elevator , and from the outside, you would think it is a luxurious Hotel.
