Johnson City is a picturesque community perched on the edge of Cherokee National Forest, near the northeastern corner of Tennessee. The community is known around the region for its thriving medical sector as well as East Tennessee State University, whose Johnson City campus serves around 15,000 students and employs hundreds of locals as faculty and staff members. Johnson City also earns top marks for livability, with countless regional and national publications naming it one of the best places to live in the United States—much of this praise can be traced back to the beautiful natural scenery, the cozy small-town environment, and the extremely affordable cost of living.

Property Ratings at Knob Creek Apartments
This is our first experience with apartment living and we have been beyond happy. First, the rental agent went out of their way to get us into the perfect floor plan for our needs. We moved into a spotless freshly painted unit with brand new LVT flooring and new carpet. The office staff is friendly and welcoming long after you move in. The maintenance staff is onsite, responsive and friendly. There are opportunities for social interaction coupled with a respect for your privacy. We had a couple minor maintenance issues that were addressed same day. They even replace lightbulbs for all fixtures. The grounds are maticulously maintained by professional landscapers and are beautiful. Apartment floor plans are open and spacious with 9 foot ceilings. Location couldn't be more perfect. A rural atmosphere overlooks a lighted city scape at night and beautiful mountain views during the day. Shopping, good medical facilities, schools/colleges, Community/Senior Center are all within minutes. Finally, the complex is Pet Friendly with a fenced off-leash area. We feel very comfortable and at home here at The Haven and plan to stay.
Absolutely HORRIBLE place to live for the price! The walls are so thin you can hear your neighbor cough, whether they are above you or beside you. The carpet, flooring, cabinet and appliances are so cheap it is laughable. They make everything seem so neat and nice when you are touring, but when you move in you realize how cheap everything actually is. No one cleans up after their pet so there is constantly dog feces everywhere. Partying college students are rampant and management does nothing to stop it. Try calling the security officer who is supposed to be on call 24/7 to help with these situations and you won't get an answer or he just won't bother to come see what the problem is. To get anyone evicted or report a noise complaint, the officer has to stand in your apartment and listen to the noise and deem it too loud for anything to occur but like I stated before, he won't ever come listen! The management is so sweet and helpful when you are looking at renting but when you are a tenant, they don't care about you any longer. The gate is usually always broken and stuck open, so there really isn't much of a point to have one. The maintenance workers park in handicapped parking in front of the buildings so if you are handicapped, you are out of luck. The trash is often overflowing from the dumpster which causes rodents and brings the worst odor. The pool is overcrowded with aforementioned college party goers who bring over the allotted amount of guests so it isn't a nice, relaxing atmosphere they make it out to be. This place is way overpriced for what it is and I would never recommend to anyone to ever live here.
I've had a terrible experience at The Haven. A maintenance man walked into my apartment to change the filter. He unlocked the door and walked in after I told him to wait when he knew I was in there and saw me completely nude!!! I was in the process of getting ready to take a shower. He walked back into my apartment to look at me when the filter was right behind the front door!! The worse part was when I told the manager, she was rude and dismissive and defended the maintenance man! Said people make mistakes, sorry!! I was horrified and still feel violated and unsafe bc my lease isn't up and they didn't say I could get out of the lease! It's the worse experience I've ever had!!!
I have lived at this apartment community for almost four months and I have absolutely no complaints. Obviously in apartment living there are going to be some issues such as noise from time to time. It seems to me that the majority of people who are complaining need to move into a house and get out of apartment living. The staff has been very professional and helpful from day one. I've had a few minor maintenance issues and they were taken care of immediately. This property is well maintained and makes me proud to call it my home. I felt the need to comment after reading all the negative reviews. I understand that no two people have exactly the same experience however I find it hard to believe that the place I am living is the same place some of these people are speaking about. I can't help but wonder if it's due to them not following the rules themselves and then getting upset when called out on it. I would definitely recommend The Haven to anyone who is looking for a beautiful apartment community to call home!
We lived there for 4 months. The people above us had a dog in which sounded like he was going to come through the ceiling. Apparently they allow dogs up to 50lbs but they should only give large dog owners the first floor. You can hear the owners walking around and thud sounds all the time. They advertise that there is a fire pit. However it does not work and the office staff said they do not plan to ever repair it. Beware you are not allowed to have your dog off a leash and you must pick up their waste. If you are seen not doing either of the two and someone takes a picture of you, you get fined and the person who turns you in gets $100. The appliances are cheap and the countertops of slanted and cheap. As many rules as they have, they do nothing about ppl speeding through the complex. I've seen dead mice in parking spots. Don't live here!! Not worth sleepless nights listening to the ppl upstairs all night.
We moved into The Haven during a downsize and placing our house on the market for sale. First of all, there are rules. If you are loud and like to have a lot of friends over to party, then I would say this is not the place for you. After a couple of complaints, you will be asked to leave. If you are looking for an upscale apartment complex that keeps everything nice, manicured and a "vacation type" feeling then you will enjoy living here. There is a quite time starting at 10 PM and we have not had any problems with noise. Yes, there is an occasional door slam or walking sound above your head but nothing that should be a bother. The apartment was clean and ready upon our move in date. We have had zero maintenance issues. It's a good blend of different ages and nationalities which is nice to me. No creepy people that we have met or noticed. You must pick up after your pets which I think is fair. It is a little pricey, but we have looked around at other places and if you take advantage of all the amenities, then it's a fair deal. I would recommend to anyone that has a normal routine and wants a nice, clean, safe place to live without fear of being disappointed. We moved from over 4000 sq. feet and the 2 bedroom apartment we have is fine if you don't overcrowd it. We love it here and plan to renew our lease. We began with a 6 month lease because of the mixed reviews on this site but found out very quickly that some of the reviews seem a little over dramatic but I am writing this review based on my personal experience. So far... NO complaints.
I have lived here for a few months now and it has been great. It has wonderful amenities and a a great maintenance team. Everything is very up to date and well managed. Walls are a little thin but other than that there is no reason anyone wouldn't love to live here!
The 2 bedroom apartment very small. We had horrible noise all around the apartment including the person above us was beyond rude with stomping and slamming doors at all hours. You take it to the complex they do nothing about it. Tons of mold in every room I mean massive amounts on every door frame and window. Just not a very friendly place to live and they could care less about the people that live there and pay all that money for rent.
I lived in these apartments in college and shortly thereafter and let me tell you they are awful. Way over priced and you always feel like you are walking on egg shells. You never feel like you can have anyone over without the staff monitoring your every move. Also, you are only allowed to have up to two pool guests(if that)! The appliances are very poor for what they charge for rent(not stainless steele) and the maintenance is never on time or in a hurry. I now live in San Antonio in a much nicer APT for close to the same price I was paying there and the cost of living is higher in SA. However, I lived in JC most of my life and you can find a Apt much cheaper with the same type of average appliances and more sq footage. I'm not a picky person but I can tell you from experience, DO NOT RENT HERE. I know a few more people who lived here for a while and say the same thing. Again, they are WAYYY over priced for what you get.
We've been here for about a year and a half and I recently found these reviews which I found to be very interesting so thought I'd add my thoughts. First the positives. The location is outstanding and really can't be beat, IMO. Located near State of Franklin and minutes from a number of stores/restaurants as well as the interstate. One of the prime reasons we chose the Haven was the location. Also, they're very pet friendly as it was one of the few apartment complexes that welcomed pets. Pet stations are conveniently scattered throughout the complex although sadly, not everyone uses them so you have to be careful when treading on the grounds. Staff seems pretty friendly in the times I've dealt with him. Maintenance is always quick to respond to any call I make about a problem and they seem pretty nice. Amenities seem nice though I admit I haven't spent time at the pool or gym area. Wife goes to both quite often and enjoys them although she has mentioned the pool gets VERY crowded. We are in a 3 bedroom apartment which is not bad... not terribly small except certain areas that I'll mention below. Parking is not a problem as there are plenty of spaces. I've only noticed an issue with the trash bin overflow on rare occasions (primarily on weekends or around holidays) but they usually keep it cleaned out. Now the negatives. First and foremost, the biggest issue by far is the noise. Every review regarding the noise here is no joke. It became very noticeable within days of moving in. The worst seems to be from above where nearly every footstep can be heard at times. From the side, it doesn't seem quite as bad but it could be we've just been fortunate to have "quiet" neighbors up to this point. Had I known it would be as bad it has been, I would've considered not moving here or maybe even a top floor apartment. The breezeways are also VERY noisy with talking echoing loudly and feet stomping up and down the stairs. Sometimes sounds like they're pounding them as hard as they can. I've also noticed many residents tend to let their doors slam shut which can literally cause the building to tremble. Now I do realize that noise is just a part of "apartment life" but I've lived in apartments before and noise has never really bothered me until moving here. Can't really comment on the 2 bedroom but in the 3 bedroom apartment, living room space is VERY small. Room for a television and a small sofa pretty much covers it. Also, the walk-in closet in the bathroom is BARELY walk-in as it is extremely small and you have to step all the way in and close the door behind you to access the rack behind the door. Also mold is an issue when winter arrives but like the noise, it's due to the construction so there's only so much you can do. Would I recommend it? It's hard to say as I have very mixed feelings about it. The staff works hard to keep the place very nice and the grounds neat. They offer activities each month to residents to participate. If you can tolerate some of the issues we've seen, then I don't think you'll find a better location.
Do not bother living here. Without water now for 24 hours. They blamed it on the Johnson City water authority. Not so- it is the havens responsibility. Very Very thin walls, loud fans, shoddy windows- Just Don't Waste Your Time here!!!!!
I wish I could post picture. Lots of mold with standing water in walkways due to poor construction. MAINTAINANCE horrible. Check walls for partially painted in flat and then satin. Onlt spot paints when people move. Horrible efforts to remove smoked in apartments. Manager Angel is hostile to approach and deal with. Always on defense. Trash builds up and overflows. They encourage you to take picture of your neighbors "breaking rules" and will give you $50 then charge them $100 (depending on what side u r on). This place is sadly only 3 years old. It looks pretty but lots of problems. WWAAYY over priced for the service. You will pay for water, sewer, and trash too. No recycle area. They brag on occupancy rate but ask about turnover. People moving in and out like revolving door. I could go on......
We had mold regardless of how well we followed their lease addendum. It was even suggested to use a dehumidifier. I would have preferred they just alleviated the issue instead of hiding it. Even found painted over mold under the window sill.
The Haven is positioned in an excellent location and containes many wonderful amenities. The grounds are well maintained and the units are very spacious. That said, the overall value falls to decent given the monthly cost and be very, very diligent reading the fine print of the contract. Deposits are not required as a perk but upon moving out you will be hammered with an "abundance" of unwarranted maintenance and cleaning charges. This is done unilaterally without your input or negotiation. Also, the unit walls are only slightly insulated so noise is a decent problem if the surrounding units are inhabited. The Haven is a good place to live but be warned of the aforementioned items.
