Adjacent to Trenton and bordering the Delaware River, Ewing is a large township that contains the College of New Jersey and the Trenton-Mercer Airport. The township began as part of Hopewell Township and was settled by colonists in 1699. The oldest building in Ewing is a farmhouse built in 1717 by William Green, one of the area's first settlers.
To get a sense of how the area must have looked to those early colonists, visit the West Branch of Shabakunk Creek, located near the airport. This natural area covers more than five miles and played a vital role in the Revolutionary War's Second Battle of Trenton. Another great location to visit after moving to a Ewing apartment is the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail, which extends along the river. The trail is 77 miles long and is popular for hiking, bicycling, jogging, and horseback riding.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Highgate Apartments
We have been tenants at Highgate since January 2025, and for the past two months, we’ve been living with an active mouse infestation. Despite repeated emails, it took some badgering to receive follow-up. The exterminator visits once and month and we had to beg maintenance to seal holes throughout the apartment. Unfortunately, these efforts have been entirely ineffective. The exterminator continues to place small bait packs and stations. We still see mice running across our living room and both bedrooms. Droppings are regularly found in the kitchen and dining area, confirming that we’ve been eating and sleeping in a contaminated environment for weeks. This is unsanitary and deeply uncomfortable. While we recognize that the infestation may not be Kriegan & Smith’s direct fault, the response has been inadequate. Attached are photos of droppings and a mouse we caught in our own trap today, as the building’s pest control measures have failed to resolve the issue.
I recently rented this place for a year. After one year, when I leave, they charge almost half of the security deposit just giving some odds reasons, such as not cleaned enough even after cleaning thoroughly. So, think of your security deposit as another monthly bill.
I moved here in May 2021 and it has been a great experience. The building is mostly quiet, which was very important to me because I work remotely. Janice was a huge part of my decision to move here. My wants in an apartment were heard and she completely made the process seamless. The lobby is clean and orderly. Jose is exceptional and keeps the building tidy. The building isn't new but there have been updates while I've been here. The apartments have amazing large windows which let in so much natural light. I haven't regretted my decision to move to Highgate once.

They changed the heating system, so you can no longer increase or decrease the heat from your apartment. The trash chute is no longer in use, so trash cans are now used in the garbage rooms. Even with the doors closed, the smell seeps out into the hallways. People running up and down the stairs making noise at all times throughout the day and night with no regard to to others. People playing loud music through the night, and management's only response is call the police
I just moved in to Highgate and I am so impressed with the move-in process. I was given the tour and a really nice move in gift. What I like best is my view of the park, pool and playground and picnic area it really makes for a very nice and quiet serene scenery. I was introduced to the maintenance staff Bob and Dave who are very gracious along with Kim the Leasing Manager. My first week here and I feel a sense of community already, love that! -Donna W
