When the first settlers arrived around 1817, they named their new community after the one they'd left behind in New York -- Rochester. Located about 25 miles north of Downtown Detroit, Rochester is a vibrant city with beautiful parks, charming neighborhoods, and a delightful downtown that attracts visitors from all over the region. The city sits about four miles east of Oakland University, a large school with a 1,443-acre campus.
Resembling an Old West town with plenty of false-front architecture, Downtown Rochester contains a wide selection of shops and restaurants. Browse the antique stores, gift shops, and art galleries and then stop for coffee at one of the cafes. In the evening, try one of the many restaurants or stop in at a tavern or pub. The Downtown Rochester Farmers' Market takes place on Saturdays, May through October. Other downtown events include Music in the Park, the Art & Apples Festival, and the Heritage Festival.

Property Ratings at Great Oaks
These people only want your money, you will be lucky if you get consistent hot water since the buildings are so old and out dated and management/maintenance does not care. The outside appearance is like smoke in mirrors, do not let the location or the landscape fool you. The pool is closed almost daily during the summer because of maintenance issues. Don’t waste your time or money.
I’ve lived in a 2 bedroom for 3 years. The neighbor above is loud all hours of the night and even tried to start fights with my wife but the office does nothing about it. They’re the cheapest around because the buildings are the worst, you get no hot water maybe for only about an hour of the day which is only enough to give my child a bath.
Moldy restroom, paint peeling off everywhere, stained carpet before we even moved in, tiles falling off, walls cracked, rude rude manager!!!!
What a disappointment Appliances are old and always in need of repair! Noise is 24/7, and management does nothing to address this issue! Hallways are filthy, dog poop everywhere, play area is always full of thorns. Water is dirty, and leaves marks on all your dishes! Front office ladies are fake! They will not do a walk through with you when you leave, and will try to lay damage fees on you, which are non-existent! Now you can't even leave your chairs on the porch overnight! Was a horrid experience. Would not recommend this to anyone!!
Apartments are located right next to the Rochester Municipal Park and less than a mile from Downtown Rochester (walking distance!). All your necessities are nearby too (groceries, gas, gym, restaurants, etc.). The apartments aren't brand new, but they are in pretty good condition. Appliances all worked pretty well and cabinets were in decent shape. Maintenance was very quick to respond to any issues, often same day as your request, but issue was not always fixed the first time. Biggest complaint about the apartment is the heat - the two bedrooms in our apartment did not seem to get much heat in the winter and were freezing cold all the time. Rooms are a little warmer in the summer as well, but not as noticeable as the lack of heat in the winter. They provide a good size storage unit in the basement for all your extra stuff which is very nice to have.
Location is perfect because it is right next to municipal park and close to Downtown Rochester which is about 10 minutes walk from the apartment. The landscaping is beautiful with ton of trees which I love. Very pleasing environment to relax after long day of work. The rooms are spacious. The bothroom and master closet is huge. I have never seen that size in other places ever. Ton of storage space inside the unit and they even have a big personal storage in basement for each unit. The price is reasonable for the quality, location and amenities. I moved from Rochester Hills to here and could not be happier. The only minor issue I see is noise from your neighbor. If they are loud you could hear them easily since wall seems to be thin. I can recommend the apartment to anybody specially the people with small kids.
I lived in Great Oaks for almost 10 years. They remodeled the office but forget about the band aid on the apartments. Watch the cabinets they supposedly updated. The cuboard and drawer front falls off because they cut them off and put new doors on 30 yr old cabinets. The basements leak too. They seem to put the money to update into the office area but the other apartments suffer. Rent raised for what? Nothing. Dont move here.
Property Manager at Great Oaks, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your valued feedback. Great Oaks strives for continued resident satisfaction. We are sorry that you were unhappy.
The amount is closets and storage space the apartment offer is perfect for someone who likes to storage things out of sight. And the walk in closets are larger than any closet I have ever had or seen.
I love living here. Location near amazing park and Downtown Rochester. The management company is all ways doing updates, service is quick and friendly. The grounds are lovely and park like. Lots of trees and flowers.
