People spend weekends on wooded trails or unwinding by the lake, where the breeze off Lake Ontario always seems to take the edge off a long week. You’ll see joggers along the Welland Canal, residents picnicking in the shade at Montebello Park, and friends gathering downtown for a bite and a pint, especially when live music spills out onto patios in the summer.
The city is practical but full of personality. Downtown has a small-city buzz with locally owned shops, cozy cafés, and arts spaces that actually feel used. The Marilyn I. Walker School adds a creative pulse, and festivals—especially the Grape and Wine Parade—bring people together in an easygoing and unforced way. Even when it’s busy, St. Catharines still feels like a place where you can take your time.

Property Ratings at Galeview Apartments
This building is badly infested with cockroaches. The elevator is frequently broken. The building is generally in a poor state of repair. Management is careless and unprofessional. Directly across from the front entrance is a homeless encampment, tents from one end of the road to the other, where the homeless shelter is. They're always burning stuff over there like they all have little campsites. Regular first responders presence, which means sirens. The homeless population and prostitutes in the area like to hang around the building, finding shelter from the rain, and a spot to use drugs. Generally in the parking lots, near the entrances. They leave their garbage and needles all over the place. It never gets cleaned up, it just blows around in the wind. This is not a safe building or neighborhood. Parking spots are much too small, and $50 per month. Whoever parks beside you will definitely hit your vehicle at some point. This was our experience. If I had any idea how awful this would be, I'd never have signed the lease. I wouldn't recommend that anyone rent one of these units. This is my personal opinion, from my experiences here.
