Property Ratings at Gables Point Loma
There are a ton of dogs that live in this complex, which I enjoy because I have a dog, too. Unfortunately, there are always a few bad apples that don't clean up after their dogs' mess, but Angel (one of the crew members here) takes it upon himself to clean up after those people, and I cant thank him enough.
Girlfriend and I were on the search for an apartment and on paper Gables seemed to check all the boxes. Close to stores, gyms, not too far from the beach, and appeared to be tucked away from the red light Midway area. It's been 19 days since move-in at the time of this review and we have so far had over $1500 worth stolen from us, including several packages disappearing within minutes of delivery and one of our cars being broken into and ransacked. The complex offers secure lockers for packages but despite including it in delivery instructions we have only ever had one package actually go to the locker as most drivers don't know or care. We've talked to management at least 5 times about coded doors being left propped open which they said they'd handle or send out a mass email about, but nothing has been done. The apartment itself is rather nice and cozy once we got it set up, but minor details were imperfect. On move-in there was an apartment condition form to fill, which I included everything I found so they wouldn't try to claim security deposit. One nuisance the person above us, whose footsteps are so loud it sounds like they are trying to stomp through the floor with each step. Laundry rooms smell like vomit and consistently have wastewater on the floors and it costs nearly $5 to run a single load through washer and dryer. Overall disappointed with the experience and will be considering cutting losses and terminating the lease early. We do not feel safe or secure enough with the events that have happened within just a few weeks of move-in
Rude, incompetent management Dog poop and litter all over the place you can hear your neighbors footsteps and anytime they use their plumbing Laundry room is frequently flooded with sewage water Constant construction from plumbing leaks I moved in 3 months ago and it has gotten progressively more unpleasant
Maintenance is always friendly and quick with repairs though some need to be redone. Jillian in Management is responsive, friendly and professional, and really seems to care about the residents. I see and appreciate upgrades and community maintenance (tree trimming, window washing); though the hot tub (all jets not working) and fire pit both need attending and it would be nice if we had access to the game room without having to request a key only during office hours. Love the hours for the gym and pool deck. Is very nice to have a late night relaxing jacuzzi soak. Bike storage is also a big plus! Love the convenience of the trash chute, if people didn’t clog it and then leave their trash next to it.
overall i love Gables, i have lived here for over three years now, noise level is always low and love my actual apartment, i love the open floor plan and my amenities. Whenever maintenance needs to be done they are pretty quick. the pool, jacuzzi, and gym are a plus. I think the only thing they can work on is cleaning the hallways and staircases more, however i feel like it is getting better.
So far so good! I love my apartment, the staff are always so friendly specially Decky. I haven’t had a single issue. I was worried about shared laundry but there hasn’t been a single problem there, I seem to be lucky and get free washes and dries almost every time I do laundry
It’s subpar. They can’t keep their staff for some reason to maintain the buildings, cleaning is a huge problem. Important daily needs are low priority.
The appliances are old and theres issues with he plumbing. In general the building is good but lack of maintenance. The zone is excellent and the parking is wide
Great views, peaceful environment, rooms with plenty of natural light, kind people and only two miles away from the beach and places of interest.
Gables Point Loma is a pleasant complex with views of all the best parts of this side of San Diego. The neighborhood is lovely: quiet and peaceful with decent people and a real safe feeling to it. My apartment is spacious and nice with so much natural light through the windows -- and natural air flow -- that I'm racking up credit on my SDG&E account from the scant use of electricity! I enjoy my apartment, but the rent is quite high; I suppose that's to be expected in Point Loma, though. One additional note: the constant noise from overhead airplanes. They fly close to the apartment complex, sometimes causing the walls to shake. That's to be somewhat expected in this city, but I wish it was quieter sometimes, and for longer than a couple hours in the dead of night. Overall, though, I've been loving my stay here at Gables. If you're looking for a casual, small, keep-to-yourself apartment community with gorgeous views, kind staff, and sweet living spaces, Gables may strike your fancy!
I enjoy Gables at Point Loma. The staff is nice and complex is very quiet and the residents keep to themselves. I would recommend this complex!!
Overall gables is great, the unit layouts are nice and spacious. Only complaint I have is that common areas aren’t very well kept, the hallways are dirty and the floors of the laundry room. I blame most of the residents for spilling stuff and not picking it up.
I really enjoy living at Gables. The staff is very kind and attentive. The location is perfect for us and we like the new maintenance team a lot!
The other residents we've ran into, so far, have been awesome and super helpful. Everyone is really nice and the pups are adorable. The one con is the garbage trucks coming before 7am!
All management staff is nice and helpful but move in conditions were sub-par. Every time we have any issue our property managers are quick to reply, and maintenance typically takes no more than two days. The facilities are also very nice. The gym is small but well organized and taken care of. The apartment itself has a great layout and tons of storage space. Due to short staffing the apartment was not as clean as we hoped on move in.
This is the best community I have ever lived in, would definitely recommend for those looking to rent. The staff are very nice and courteous. Maintenance is fast to respond to any requests and they keep the grounds clean and pretty. Would completely recommend moving here 100/10.
Gables Point Loma is tucked away in a nice residential neighborhood. There are plenty of shops nearby. The beach is a few short miles away making it fun and easy to bike to. The pool and gym are sweet amenities. I appreciate it being super pet friendly. The dog run area is convenient. The only downer is with that many residents, some pet owners do not pick up after their pets in and around the property. Despite the community providing doggy bags, there is always poop on the grass and even along the driveway in parking spots. The planes start flying at 6:30 a.m. and that took some getting used to. Overall, a decent living experience.
Move-in experience was very good. Jillian was stellar at helping us navigate the move-in process and always available to answer our questions in a timely manner.
I have been here almost a year and I enjoy being here. The staff is patient and friendly and the maintenance staff is professional. The area in Point Loma is quient and a good place to live.
Gables Point Loma is in a great location - it is central to Midway with lots of convenient stores to make life easy, but is tucked away into a residential area of PL. The apartment itself is not the most modern, but we love it! This is a pet friendly community - there are tons of cute dogs around all the time. However, the downside of this is that the building is often full of dog hair, and some people are not good about picking up after their dogs. The building management could definitely improve on how often the building/community is cleaned, and I think that would be huge for the building. We love the area and our apartment, but the overall cleanliness of the community is what would make me hesitate to resign our lease. The pool/hot tub are great amenities. The gym is a good touch as well though it's also not the cleanest and is quite small but has everything you need. Overall, I'd say this apartment community is solid, but could definitely improve on cleanliness and security.
It has been overall good. There are also residents who are not courteous and slam their door for some reason. I am unsure where in the apartment it is happening in. It is not a normal loud door shutting, it is more like multiple repeated attempts to shut the door as if out of anger.
The maintenance crew works quick and is very accommodating. They have always been on time and worked around our busy schedule. They are very helpful!

Nestled in the heart of the city, this apartment boasted a truly enviable location. It's been a good experience with Gables thus far! No complaints outside of our rent being raised. The community property management does a great job at responding from maintenance requests.
i’ve been really happy with my time here going on for years and they’ve made a lot of really nice improvements lately, the staff is really nice in the leasing office and the maintenance people! Highly recommend
Office staff and maintenance are great and respond very quickly to get work orders done. Office is quick to respond to any calls or concerns you may have
I think we’re still at a point where communication really needs to be more clear and transparent. Amenities are now being closed with an “expected” dates to reopen but unfortunately in the past, “expected” dates haven’t been any bit more than promising. Also, bringing the community together with coffee and donuts………… lol have a bbq for the residents or something with the pool. It’s SoCal after all.
Excellent place to live. People working there are very nice and attentive. It is hard to find a place in San Diego around a good neighborhood, close to stores, near to downtown, comfortable, considerable price; so if you are looking all that in a place to rent. Gables residence is the perfect place.
The location is Great and close to beaches and downtown, thin walls, managements great and maintenance works issues quickly, taxi to airport is around 25 dollars
Bad management and too many repairs needed. Should offer discounted rent for the constant inconveniences and malfunctions. Packages get stolen and nothing is ever locked.
Leasing staff is outstanding and the Maintenance team are professionals. The whole team seems to be on the same sheet of music which makes for a really easy living situation.
Things are improving a bit; it is cleaner, landscaping is beautiful! However, there are several unfinished or incorrectly completed projects going on. Repairs are incomplete, and there are unfulfilled promises.Staff are disrespectful of tenants! Staff are very rude and impossible to reason with! Most of them are unqualified for the needs of this property.
It's okay. Maintenance crew really great, fixes problems fast. It can get kind of loud at night which can be annoying sometimes. The washing machines are broken a lot.
The new management is making several new, very positive changes and it’s much appreciated and definitely a breath of fresh air. I would highly recommend the changes and the atmosphere here at Gables. In addition, have a ? , make a call they pick up during business hours every time.
Amenities are awesome even though the Jacuzzi breaks a lot the apartments are OK but there’s mold. It’s a nice area close to everything. Way overpriced
It's been a few years since I moved here, the Gables complex is well maintained, very clean, and safe! Staff are very friendly and super supportive. I am very grateful and 100 percent recommend Gables to everyone!
I’ve moved units due to mold. Got sick and lost jobs and had to pay for lodging while no one helped. I have several mold testing kits from multiple units and results and had health issues
I love gables point loma, I have lived here three years and they just recently redid the carpeting to flooring and it looks much better. I love my spacious unit a lot and get complements anytime someone comes over
It’s slowly starting to improve. I would say we need more maintenance staff to upkeep the new wood floors, daily cleaning, and also the laundry room still needs to be kept in cleaner conditions.
Staff is attentive and friendly. Quick to repair anything that you bring to their attention. Walls here are very thin though which causes issues, but all in all location/community is great.
I’ve been living here for 5 years and I have loved it. It is quiet, well-kempt tans sits on a bluff above the hustle and bustle with a great view. The staff is always friendly and helpful with requests, it’s a hidden gem!
The apartments themselves are old and do keep breaking. The staff is excellent and tries their best even given a bad circumstance. Time been without water in my bathroom 5 days and a different time without water in my kitchen 4 days. Residents leave dog poo everywhere and even on occasion in the halls.
Great amenities and friendly staff. We've made friends with many of the residents and really enjoy living here. Sometimes it can get a bit noisy due to the size of the apartment complex, but great experience overall.
The complex is very up to date and modern. I love the way it is set up. The staff is incredibly friendly and Maintenance is very fast to respond.
Overall a great price for what’s provide. Have had a lot of issues with staff not getting things fixed in a timely manner, mainly laundry. They need to do better for their tenants.
Engaged management doing a lot to update the building. Price is high but reasonable compared to other new buildings in the area. Tucked in to San all residential area that makes dog walking easy
It is a very quiet and cozy place to live! We are very happy with our new apartment, it is exactly what we were looking for! We recommend this place to couples that are just starting and want a cute little place.
I like the area, it’s nearby everything you need. There are many grocery stores nearby and cafes. Landlords are constantly renovating which is a plus!
I personally appreciate the new management, especially Demitrah for all her hard work. She is a really sweet and wonderful woman who sincerely cares about the residents. We need to keep her!
