Springfield is rich with American history -- one of the final American Revolution battles, the Battle of Springfield, was fought here in 1780. The town is still home to historical landmarks from the Revolution, including the Cannon Ball House (built in 1741), which is now a museum. After British troops burned the First Presbyterian Church, it was rebuilt -- but much of the original structure remains.
