Life in Nanaimo flows between ocean views and forested trails, with a relaxed vibe that’s hard to rush. Perched on the east coast of Vancouver Island, this harbour city is known for its long waterfront, where ferries glide across Departure Bay and seaplanes buzz above. Locals stroll the Harbourfront Walkway with coffee in hand, while kayakers and dog walkers share space near the rocky shoreline. You’ll spot murals, boats, and the occasional heron—reminders that nature and city life blend seamlessly here.
Neighbourhoods like Departure Bay, Old City Quarter, and Uplands offer a mix of character homes and low-rise apartment communities, many with views of the water or forested hills. Day-to-day living is simple: shops, schools, and cafés are woven into residential pockets, and there’s no shortage of outdoor spaces to explore. Public transit connects most parts of the city, and the nearby Vancouver Island University campus adds youthful energy to the local scene.

Property Ratings at Woodland Townhomes
They left me with a leaking roof for 12 months, they cut out a large portion of the interior and covered it with plastic. Brown water dripped from the walls and bathroom vent. After 12 months they notified me they hadn't started the repair process, because the unit needed a new roof. Then the unit got rats. Then they 'fixed it' but won't pay for the proper paint to colour match the walls, it looks terrible. And they raised the rent.
