Located in western Alberta, Canada, the city of Grande Prairie lies along the Bear River near the British Columbia border. Its name originates from the way 19th century fur traders described the open land that surrounded the town site. Today Grande Prairie’s modern economy is based on agriculture, forest products, and the oil and natural gas industries.
