Historia

-

Seen as a "kind of utopia" in the eyes of William Ellsworth Smythe, Tujunga had its roots planted as a development deal between Smythe and real estate speculator Marshall V. Hartranft in 1907. Twisted with grape vineyards and an industrial site for olive canning in its early heyday, Tujunga has become a peaceful natural resort for local homeowners and renters.

Built on the rolling hills of Monte Vista, a small movement of community organizers petitioned for the site to be a sixth-class city called "Verdugo Hills", but the idea was later canned when the county was absorbed into the city of Los Angeles in 1926.

Tujunga is home to a couple of historical sites, such as the former home of Californian playwright John McGroarty's Chupa Rosa monument and the Bolton Hall museum, The county of Sunland-Tujunga also hosts an annual Watermelon Festival every year.
