For shopping and dining, large retail centers with a variety of restaurants and big-box stores are immediately south of town. Developed in the 1980s by the Harris Land Company, Seven Eagles is the first phase of a master-planned community encompassing approximately 120 acres. The master plan includes future phases featuring a mixed-use Mediterranean-style retail village and 120 upscale condominium homes.

As the area around it grows and prospers, Seven Eagles reaps the benefits. Home values have steadily climbed since 2011, and Quail Hollow Country Club — considered by many to be one of the great jewels of the South — continues as home of the PGA Wells Fargo Championship each spring.

Without question, The Wells Fargo Championship serves as the defining cultural event for the neighborhood. This prestigious tournament has become one of the top events on the PGA Tour and residents rally around its success.

Because of its close proximity to SouthPark, Seven Eagles residents have easy access to more than two dozen restaurants and bars. Within the mall and immediate area, locals enjoy delectable hotspots such as Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House, Harper's - home of the area's best pecan-encrusted trout - and the always popular The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar.

Less than a mile from Seven Eagles resides Quails Corner Shopping Center. This recently updated retail center features 18 stores and restaurants including Rusty's Deli, a locally owned neighborhood oasis known for its lively atmosphere, great service and chicken philly, and Ilios Noche, an upscale Mediterranean restaurant known for its flavor-packed dishes. Quail Corners is anchored by the grocer Harris Teeter and hosts a popular summer concert series from May through September.

If you're thirsty for an adult beverage, the SouthPark area, including retail destinations Piedmont Town Center and Phillips Place, have plenty of friendly watering holes. Located in a business park just across from SouthPark Mall, Village Tavern is a long-time favorite with locals, in part due to the wine specials on Wednesdays. A mile down the road at Phillips Place lies another local favorite, The Palm Restaurant, which serves unique and tasty dishes such as the Nova Scotia lobster sliders. Known for its power lunches and happy hour specials, The Palm is a natural fit for those seeking a little more refinement.

Seven Eagles is nestled along McMullen Creek roughly between Park Road and Carmel Road in South Charlotte about 5 minutes from I-77, which provides easy access with I-85 and I-485 — Charlotte’s outerbelt.

Charlotte's love affair with cars — the NASCAR Hall of Fame is located uptown — translates into 20- to 30-minute commutes to uptown during rush hours. However, a growing number of commuters are parking their rides and taking the Charlotte Area Transit System. CATS, as it's known, runs bus service on Park Road starting at 5:50 a.m. on weekdays until 10:39 p.m. CATS also operates the LYNX Blue Line, the region’s first light rail service to uptown. If you need to take a taxi, make sure to call ahead as hailing one from the street can be difficult; Uber also services the area.

If you need to travel farther than a car will take you, Charlotte Douglas International Airport is about 30 minutes away. The world’s sixth busiest airport, this US Airways hub flies to more than 140 nonstop destinations around the globe.

William R. Davie Park, located six miles south of Seven Eagles, has something for just about everyone. Athletes are drawn to the park’s soccer and softball fields. Pickup soccer games go on Friday through Sunday, weather permitting. Dog owners love the off-leash, fenced-in Davie Dog Park. For those seeking a little tranquility, walking trails throughout the park’s 107 acres give visitors a chance to commune with nature while stretching their legs. There’s also a playground for the kids — or those who are just a kid at heart. The conference center within this park hosts numerous public and private events throughout the year.

An area known for its mansions, Mercedes and designer shopping, Seven Eagles provides gracious Southern living at a cost slightly higher than other comparable luxury areas in Charlotte. Expect to pay on average $738 for a one-bedroom apartment. If you’re heading out to one of the local pubs, expect to pay about $9 for glass of nice pinot noir or $6 for a craft-style beer. Gasoline prices in the area around Seven Eagles are very close to national averages, and if anything, gas prices may be a penny or two less in the area around Seven Eagles. However, for real savings at the pump, drive 20 minutes over the NC/SC state line. Gas prices in South Carolina are typically 25 to 35 cents less per gallon.

Just a few minutes from Seven Eagles, you'll find the luxury shopping destination of SouthPark Mall, a climate-controlled indoor mall with more than 150 stores. Anchored by Belk's, Dillard's, Macy's, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, SouthPark Mall also features American Girl, Apple, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Microsoft and Tiffany & Co. among its multiple vendors. While visiting SouthPark, be sure to check out The Village at SouthPark located by Crate & Barrel outside the main entrance. The Village provides excellent dining options and offers exciting shopping at I.C. London, Paul Simon and Paul Simon for Women.

Just one-half mile west of SouthPark Mall lies Phillips Place, an open-air mall built to resemble an inviting main street. Here, you'll find outstanding restaurants, specialty retailers, designer apparel and exquisite home furnishings, all set against a backdrop of beautiful flowers, park benches and bubbling fountains.

For a smaller, more refined shopping experience, try the Specialty Shops SouthPark, which is located across from SouthPark Mall. This beautifully landscaped, open-air shopping center features a variety of speciality stores such Williams-Sonoma as well as some of the best dining in the SouthPark area. The deviled eggs and millionaire's bacon appetizer at Bricktop's is worth the trip alone.
