The area that has become known as San Gorgonio was originally settled by Spanish missionaries in the early 1800s. When the mission came to an end, the area soon became home to ranches. In 1860, gold was discovered in nearby Holcomb Valley, drawing in more settlers to the region. During the later years of the 19th century, the railways extended to San Bernardino, bringing in more residents and expanding job opportunities.

Take a step back in history when you visit San Bernardino County Museum to brush up on the areas history. The city of San Bernardino hosts festivals and events throughout the year. Calico Days has become one of the most famous festivals. This festival celebrates California’s Silver Rush, and it features a miner’s triathlon and a burro race.
