The area now known as Pecan Valley was originally home to small bands of nomadic Native American tribes, including the Papaya Indians. Development of the area began in the early 1700s by the Spanish settlers. During the 1800s and 1900s, San Antonio continued to expand and develop, and eventually, the community of Pecan Valley was formed.

Pecan Valley does not have any particular distinguishing events of its own, but the greater San Antonio area hosts a range of festivals and events throughout the year. Some of the more notable events include the Wine and Culinary Festival, Contemporary Art Month, and the Texas Folklife Festival.

Pecan Valley lies Southeast of San Antonio off Highway-87 and Interstate-410. It should take around 15 minutes to drive to the center of San Antonio from Pecan Valley via Interstate-37 South. It proves easy to find public ramps and on-street parking within the area.

The Pecan Valley area does not provide any dedicated bike lanes or bike trails. Its concentration of shops and attractions in a central location make the area fairly easy to access on foot.

Several public bus routes service the Pecan Valley area, making it convenient to connect to San Antonio and outlying areas. It takes around 24 minutes to get to the center of San Antonio via public bus route 28.
