Viviendo en Parkside

Historia

-

Parkside is a neighborhood of Hollywood, which is a planned city founded in 1925 by Joseph W. Young. The Holocaust Documentation Center on Harrison Street is the only museum in the area, and there is an Art & Culture Center too, where the city of Hollywood holds frequent art-oriented events.

Numerous downtown events keep Parkside residents busy throughout the year. Visit the Artwalk on the third Saturday of each month, and the Dream Classic Car show on the first Sunday of every month. Weekly affairs are held as well, such as the Monday night Food Truck Invasion and Funtastic Fridays, when there is a bounce house, treats and a special movie in the park for the kids.

Restaurantes y Bares

-

An exotic array of bars and restaurants awaits you in downtown Hollywood. Parkside is so close there is no need to drive there, and it is a pleasant walk down the tree-lined streets.

Whiskey Tango’s stage comes alive with local talent every weekend, but that’s not the only time this beloved Parkside hangout’s attractions are worth stopping in for. Drink specials keep this hub of action humming all day and night. Great bar food like chicken wings and burgers just steps away from the ArtsPark make this a quality establishment for all visitors.

The south side of Young Circle would not be the same without the authentic Italian comfort food found at Mama Mia’s. The convenience of valet parking allows you to step right out of your car and into the dining room. It's located even closer to the park than Whiskey Tango, and you can even hear the music from concert programs here if you sit outside at the sidewalk café.

The setting may surprise you, sitting in a shopping plaza next to a grocery store, but Senor Cafe and its treasures should not be overlooked. Drop in for Cuban Coffee, or take a nice meal break here. Whether you’re in the mood for a roast pork sandwich or a full meal, entrees such as the Seafood Creole will keep you coming back for more.

Downtown Hollywood’s nightlife is friendly and constant. No matter when you visit, the boulevard is lined with hookah bars and belly dancers. You can also enjoy live music in numerous small bars, along with open mic nights and karaoke events where you can get up to perform for your friends and family.

From east to west, the north end of Parkside is loaded with restaurants, bars, and clubs for your culinary and entertainment pleasure.

Transporte

-

Broward County Transit’s buses run along Federal Highway in addition to traveling east and west just north and south of Parkside. There are usually cabs near Publix at Young Circle, but they don’t take long to arrive here if you use the telephone or computer to hail one. Uber's ride-share service is also an option, especially if you’re going to travel more than just a short distance.

Public parking is plentiful, and most of it is free or inexpensive. There are very few places where parking costs more than $2 per hour. Interstate 95 is about a mile west and may be reached via Pembroke Road to the south or Hollywood Boulevard on the north side of the neighborhood.

Parkside has sidewalks on all of its streets and is easily walkable. At any given time you’ll find people out walking, jogging and riding their bikes around the area.

Parques

-

Hollywood’s ArtsPark is the biggest and best park in the neighborhood, although there is also a fenced dog park in Poinciana Park on S 21st Ave just north of Pembroke Road. Both parks usually have free admission, although at times the ArtsPark is fenced in, and a fee is charged for specific events.

The ArtsPark has a children’s playground and restrooms. It is also dog-friendly; however, there is no off leash section here. In the ArtsPark, as well as throughout downtown Hollywood, there are numerous waste receptacles which have “doggie bags” available for waste disposal.

The ArtsPark hosts a full schedule of concerts, movies and other activities, including festivals and even an occasional carnival.

Costo

-

It does cost slightly more to live in this neighborhood than in a few nearby regions, largely due to the proximity of downtown’s conveniences as well as the beach. On the plus side, you won’t need transportation to get downtown because this neighborhood serves as part of the downtown district.

The average rent for a one-bedroom residence is $1,300 per month. A beer in the neighborhood runs from $5 to $10, depending upon how exotic you want it to be. There’s a specialty place on Hollywood Boulevard that stocks beers from all over the world. Meanwhile, gas prices in Parkside are within 3 percent of the national average.

Compras

-

Shopping for Parkside is clustered at the north end in downtown Hollywood for the most part, but there are a few places along US1 toward Pembroke Road. You can find stores ranging from super bargains to high-end couture among the downtown shops.

Morningstar's Jewelers has been in its present location for over half a century, and its reputation is solid when it comes to knowledge of gems, settings and quality watches.

Hollywood Vine on Harrison Street boasts a selection of wines that makes this place a gift-giver’s paradise. It also happens to be an excellent venue for parties, movie screenings and other intimate gatherings.

The Goddess Store & Studio provides classes, clothing, accessories and other décor related to belly dancing and burlesque.

There is a Publix store with ample parking at Young Circle adjacent to the ArtsPark, and on Federal Highway near Pembroke Road, you'll find a Presidente supermarket. Josh’s Organic Garden in Oceanwalk Mall at the beach is the nearest farmers market.
