Only about 3 miles north from Downtown Columbus, Northwood Park offers an easy commute to work and close access to Ohio State campus activities and attractions.

Northwood Park, also known as the Northwood and Oakland Avenue Area, was one of the first subdivisions developed in the first half of the century on the then "outskirts" of the city of Columbus. With a strong sense of community, large homes, beautiful gardens and brick alleys, the neighborhood rounds out Ohio State off-campus living with a family friendly environment close to football games and other university fun. Whether you take this neighborhood as a permanent resident or renter, you'll find a great local community with arts, events and activities for everyone.

Northwood Park was one of the first Columbus subdivisions settled just to the northeast of downtown Columbus on Northwood and Oakland Avenues. Known for a strong sense of community, Northwood Park offers a convenient off-campus residency for Ohio State University. Within University District, Northwood Park provides access to several local art museums and activities.

All around University District, there are several university-linked attractions including the Wexner Center for the Arts on North High Street; the location of an annual student art event with many free items. South Campus Gateway, Newport Music Hall, and other locations also present art, live music, and greeneries for the enjoyment of all residents.

Northwood Park in the University District of Columbus provides several local diners and pubs available with famous local menus and specialties known in the surrounding area. With so many national cuisines available right there in Northwood Park, you'll find a wide variety of unique meals and great customer service. Two very well-reviewed restaurants include Ray Ray's Hog Pit and Angry Bear Kitchen, both on North High Street in the University District. Ray Ray's keeps bringing customers back for their specialty barbecue sauces along with a great pork sandwich and brisket on the menu. Angry Bear Kitchen gained popularity for multiple items including the beef tongue poutine, dungeness crab and poached eggs. Customers rave about the friendly service here. You'll find a variety of national and international cuisines nearby, including Heirloom Cafe, Fusian for Asian cuisine and sushi, and Diaspora for Korean lunch and dinner. Known for a convenient location close to the Ohio State campus, Northwood Park contains several pubs, breweries and sports bars for happy hour and active nights out. Head to Village Idiot and The Thirsty Scholar for those late nights out and active OSU game days. Stop in at North High Brewery for a mixture of delicious menu items and fun bar life into the night. With so many college students in the areas, you'll find a wide variety of dance clubs and bars that remain open late 7 days a week.

Close proximity to all major Columbus freeways gets you downtown quickly. Parking within the neighborhood can be easily obtained at no cost. The majority of Northwood Park residents choose to drive themselves, but you'll find several options if you'd rather leave the job to someone else.

You'll find many taxi and limousine transportation services in Northwood Park, including Uber. Make sure to call in advance to schedule service. Multiple COTA (Central Ohio Transit Authority) stops can be found throughout Northwood Park, offering transportation to the university, downtown and other Columbus neighborhoods. Sidewalks make the neighborhood extremely walkable, and many residents can be seen riding bikes throughout the area.

The University District, along with Northwood Park and surrounding neighborhoods, contains various parks, including gardens, open and active areas, university agricultural research and further historical recognition for the city and Ohio State.

Whetstone Park of Roses includes a playground, kids’ fishing lake and biking trail in addition to beautiful flower garden displays. Buckeye Grove, known for its recognition of the university and the Buckeye teams, displays both research growth and famous athletic and university history to residents, fans and visitors. Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens and Olentangy River Wetlands Research Park are also part of the university in education and presentation while beautiful and open to the local residents and visitors.

Various annual events take place to celebrate events from holidays to music appreciation, including Live Music Saturday at Rockside Winery & Vineyards and two Family Fun Festivals at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

You won't want to miss the North Market merchants market. Located on Spruce Street, this farmers market is Columbus' one remaining farmers market and offers everything from produce to artisan foods and baked goods.
