Historia

-

Like most of Ohio, Middleburg Heights has a strong Native American history. Once home to the Eastern Woodland Indians, fierce battles were fought on these lands offering a rich and mesmerizing history for interested townspeople that can be discovered at the local library or at Cleveland's renowned and nearby museums.

200 years ago the first European settlers arrived, Jared and Rachel Hickox, building the first log cabin home along the plentiful banks of Lake Abram. By 1836, Middleburg Heights began to thrive as a farming community. Known as the Onion Capitol, they supplied tons of produce to nearly half of the United States. In the late 1940's the demand for commercial businesses caused the town to shift gears. The creation of the Southland Shopping Center along with the development of Interstate 71 in 1950 turned this town into the thriving residential, business-oriented community seen today.

Customers praise the craft beer, which some say is the best in Ohio, and report that the limited food menu is surprisingly good, including pizza and brats. Down the road in nearby Parma, music lovers head to Local Tavern to hear young hopefuls take the stage five nights a week. The large bar pours a wide selection of beer on tap and serves a gastropub menu with an emphasis on comfort food, such as bacon-wrapped peppers with pimento.
