Like many other cities in Southern California, Riverside began as a Spanish rancho. The city was incorporated in 1870 by a group of settlers who wanted to further education and culture. The city experienced immense economic growth with the introduction of the citrus industry. As the city prospered and began to expand, Magnolia Center became the heart of the city.
