Historia

-

Mableton’s history dates back to 1832, when the region, along with the rest of Cobb County, was established as part of disputed territory of the Cherokee Nation. The area was named after Robert Mable, who bought 300 acres of land in Cobb County in 1843. By 1881, the Southern Railway had opened a stop in Mableton, and in 1882 the area got its own post office.

The county, which included the area known today as Mableton, was heavily involved in the American Civil War and served as a popular camping spot for Confederate soldiers. The Mableton area was mostly farmland for the majority of its long history, and much of the area was inhabited by cotton farms during the early 1900s and into the Great Depression. Today, many residents of the area still honor the area's deep cotton farming roots.

At the Mable House, residents can learn more about the historic beginnings of this community. Throughout the historic Mable House property, guests can read more about the history of Mableton and see early images and artifacts from centuries ago. The Mable House also hosts concerts, theater exhibitions, tours and summer camps for little ones. The Mable House was the original homestead of the Mable family and acted as a massive plantation for decades, playing a huge role in Georgia’s rural farming history.
