The origin of Kernersville dates all the way back to 1871, the year it became recognized as an official town. Within two years the town experienced considerable growth due to the construction of a prominent railroad line. In an effort to honor the past and recognize where it came from, Kernersville has preserved the original train depot, currently the second oldest in Western North Carolina. Kernersville's central location in the Piedmont Triad is the quality that has caused this town to play such an integral part in both the past and the future.

The Spring Folly is Kernersville's largest and most popular annual festival, attracting up to 25,000 visitors. Each year on the first free weekend of May, a number of talented bands and artists come together to entertain the people of Kernersville. The entire weekend is one filled with live music entertainment.
