Hills of Park North lies in the northeast region of San Antonio, a city that began as a Spanish settlement before becoming part of the American frontier. Railroads connected it to major cities in the late 19th century, leading to a growth in population and industry. Continued development throughout the 20th century added military bases, tourist attractions, businesses and neighborhoods to the city.

While the neighborhood doesn't have much of an arts scene, you can find art galleries throughout the rest of San Antonio. A short drive west of the area you have the closest museum, the Texas Transportation Museum. Hills of Park North doesn't have any annual events, but a diverse blend of events take place around the city.

China Sun Restaurant keeps it simple, with subtle decor and a quiet, serene atmosphere that allows you to enjoy every bite of your meal. Food comes out fast, making this an excellent place to grab a quick lunch or a bite to eat after work. If you enjoy greasy food, try this restaurant's egg rolls. Those who want a healthier option should get the sesame chicken.

Start your day with a traditional Mexican breakfast at Pedro's Mexican Restaurant. Get there early if you want to try the barbacoa, as it tends to be one of the fastest selling items. Pedro's has different specials every day of the week to bring down the already low prices and family items for parents and children to eat together. If you don't feel like making the drive, order delivery online.

For a spicy and healthy meal, check out Thai Cafe. Service comes with a smile, and the staff provides you with hot tea while you wait for your meal. If you feel like having a big meal, come by around midday and order the lunch buffet for a large, all you can eat selection of Thai foods.

As far as nightlife goes, the area has a bit of everything, including sports bars, dance clubs and saloons. When you feel like dancing to some country music, head to Midnight Rodeo. Drink specials every night mean you can always get cheap beverages here, and frequent events keep it interesting no matter when you visit. The DJ plays primarily country to stick with the theme but occasionally mixes in other genres.

Residents of this neighborhood use their cars for most trips. Hills of Park North has quick highway access, with Interstate 35 located a short drive east. That highway, which runs north and south, connects with Interstate 410, also known as "Loop 410" because of the way it loops around the inner part of San Antonio. Motorists often get on Loop 410 at the start of their commute due to its many highway connections. As far as parking goes, this neighborhood allows free street parking; just read the signs first.

VIA Metropolitan Transit buses provide public transportation throughout San Antonio, with routes 14, 502 and 640 stopping in the area. Taxis and ride share companies like Uber also service Hills of Park North. Pick up times vary, and calling ahead is far easier than attempting to hail a vehicle.

Walks and bike rides should be saved for your leisure time, as neither works well for most commutes or errands. Destinations tend to be too far to reach by walking, and many streets around the area lack bike lanes or ample sidewalks.

This neighborhood gives residents plenty of opportunities to get outside, with parks and amusement parks in the surrounding area.

Spend an hour in a skate park, swim a couple laps in a pool then go on a hike for some deer viewing, all without leaving Lady Bird Johnson Park. A short drive down Nacogdoches Road, this park connects with the Salado Creek Greenway if you want to hike a bit further. Sports fields give athletes a place to get a game going before having a bite to eat at the picnic areas. The park has no fee, and it welcomes on-leash dogs.

Morgan's Wonderland features attractions the whole family can enjoy, including an amphitheater, a carousel, and a ride on an off-vehicle. Ticket prices vary based on age, and you get a better rate for buying a season pass. With many attractions that cater to those with special needs, everyone feels welcome at this amusement park. Although Morgan's Wonderland doesn't hold any annual events, it does have special events such as Senior Fridays and Moms' Coffee and Conversation.
