Hayesville was originally inhabited by the Kalapuya Native Americans. The first western pioneers arrived to the area in 1812, and worked as trappers and fur traders. The area developed into a residential and business center during the 1900s. As the community of Salem matured, neighboring communities such as Hayesville were born. Head to the Mission Mill Museum to learn more about the area’s rich history.
