Historia

-

A firm economic foundation helped shape this town's thriving service economy. Founded in 1805, Canton residents were slow to accept the building of transportation routes, delaying the growth of what is now one of the most renowned cities in Ohio. The town developed into an important industrial and agricultural area during the American Civil War, giving rise to countrywide trade of products such as Hoover Vacuums and Hambden watches, among others. This created a strong workforce, part of the growing population that moved to the booming area.

Home to several museums, the Canton area is brimming with rich opportunities to experience its history. From classic cars to arts to exploration of underground railroad systems, this town links the past to the present at numerous places throughout the city.
