Historia

-

Years in the making, Grogan’s Mill came to fruition after the acquisition of a tract of land by Mr. George Mitchell from the Grogan Cochran Lumber Company, which the village is named after.

The original vision of this Woodlands pioneer was to create a community that offered as many job opportunities as homes. Grogan’s Mill now stands adjacent to the activity hubs of the Woodlands Mall and Market Street in Town Center, fulfilling Mr. Mitchell’s ambition.

With only 19 homes and 50 apartments, Grogan’s Mill had a humble beginning. Captain Kirk himself, actor Richard Shatner, took part in the flag-raising ceremony at Grogan’s Mill in 1974. Rapid growth and expansion have seen the addition of over 4,000 homes, many high-rise apartment buildings, a live music venue and the Memorial-Hermann Hospital.

Fireworks spark in the night sky each year at the Red Hot and Blue Festival held at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell pavilion to celebrate the Fourth of July. Soak up some culture at another annual event enjoyed by Grogan’s Mill residents, the Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, which is held each April and showcases over 200 local and regional artists.

If you want a creepy alternative to the typical history museum, drop by The National Museum of Funeral History, located a few miles south of Grogan's Mill on Interstate 45. A $10 admission fee grants you access to exhibits such as a coffin made for three people.

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County serves as a tamer alternative if you're seeking out local history. This little gem lies north of Grogan's Mill and exhibits highlight the beginnings of Montgomery County, especially the oil and lumber trades.
