Historia

-

Incorporated in 1859, High Point's central location within the state made it a manufacturing location for cotton and lumber. Area artisans asserted themselves as master builders and the first of numerous High Point furniture factories opened in 1889.

High Point University opened in 1924. The first 75 years consistently brought small enrollment numbers, but in 2005, the school launched a growth initiative. As a result, its enrollment numbers grew and the population of Outer High Point swelled accordingly.

The High Point Museum maintains exhibits about the city and its history makers. The facility is open Wednesday through Saturday with free admission. Celebrate the holiday season at the museum’s annual open house. Local artists also present their collections at the High Point Museum. Each month, a new exhibition is chosen and displayed for visitors to enjoy.

For a higher end dining experience, spend an evening at Hampton’s. Decorated in the style of a 1920s hotel, this establishment is a real dining experience. The four star menu includes maple leaf Farm Duck’s Breast, prepared with cranberry almond cous cous.

Locals drop into the Brewers Kettle for a good drink in a relaxing atmosphere. The establishment maintains an impressive selection of more than 100 varieties of beer. Visitors can also choose from several wine varieties or opt for a cigar from their humidor. When planning your visit, note that it's only open during limited hours, closing at 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

When it comes to nightlife, Blue Bourbon Jacks keeps the locals returning with live bands and Mad Mondays with half off drinks. Dance the night away, play a game of pool or chill out on the patio with some appetizers.
