Historia

-

Incorporated into Los Angeles County in 1911, Glendora began as a small community focused on agriculture. Significant residential development started in the late 1950s, and the city now combines a diverse group of homes with a variety of businesses. Nicknamed "The Pride of the Foothills," this city has a modern feel while still taking pride in its past.

Glendora has a diverse, developing arts scene. The Glendora Historical Society Musuem stands as a testament to the city's past. Run by volunteers, this free museum can be seen on Saturday afternoons. Stop by for a look at relics, old images and even a chance to go in the old Glendora Jail. Rubel Castle, donated to the historical society by Michael Rubel, has plenty to see, including classic cars and old heirlooms. Take the kids, as they'll love the chance to explore a real castle.

Restaurantes y Bares

-

The city contains a varied collection of American and international restaurants.

Located in downtown Glendora, Luca Bella Fine Foods provides freshly made Italian food at a reasonable price. A large wine selection combined with a romantic ambiance makes this restaurant an excellent choice for a date night. If you go there for lunch, make sure to try the turkey panini, paired with one of the salads.

Gourmet burgers lovers should check out The Krave Kobe Burger Grill, located on South Grand Avenue. With burgers made exclusively from Kobe beef, this grill focuses on healthy eating and humanely raised cattle. If you're a big eater, get the Kolossal Kobe Burger. Visit on the monthly Krave Kares charity night, and half your tab will go to a local charity, organization or school.

Taco Grill transports you south of the border, with a staff that welcomes you right away and has fresh tacos at a low price. The colorful environment and paintings on the walls make this an ideal place for an inexpensive family dinner. Go on Tuesday for the 99 cent tacos.

Nightlife in the area tends to be quiet and laid back, but you can still have a crazy night if you know where to look. Check out Clubhouse 66, located on East Route 66, whether you want to dance all night or just watch the game. The clubhouse keeps it interesting with an acoustic music theme on Wednesdays and bands playing on Fridays and Saturdays.

Transporte

-

Residents tend to travel around by car, but the city also provides multiple public transportation options.

Multiple freeways and easy to navigate local roads make it easy to drive around the area. State Route 210, running east and west, cuts through the southern end of Glendora. Interstate 10, also running east to west, lies further south. California State Route 57 lies on the south-east end of Glendora and can be taken south. Parking can be found on the streets — just check the signs to avoid any tickets.

Foothill Transit buses service the community and connect with the Los Angeles Metro. Head over to the Lone Hill Park & Ride to take either the Foothill Transit 494 or the Foothill Transit 690. The Metrolink Shuttle, which can be taken from the Park & Ride on Mountain View, goes to the Covina Metrolink Station with stops along the way. Glendora lies outside the service area for ride share companies like Uber, but taxis service the area.

Due to the size of the city, commutes and errands will be most convenient with a car or public transportation. Certain sections of Glendora can be traveled on foot or by bike, but you'll have an easier time with other methods of transportation. Save the bike for recreational rides to take in the scenery.

Parques

-

Glendora has an extensive list of parks with activities for residents and even an exclusive, members-only country club where professional golfers play.

Those with pets should check out the South Hills Dog Park, provided to the community free of charge. It welcomes pets and people with its drinking fountains for both and plenty of doggy bags available. With a group of dogs that tends to be very well-behaved, this park can be fun for both dogs and children who want to play.

The Glendora Country Club, a highlight of the community since 1954, has beautiful greens that can provide a challenge for golfers of all levels. A 25-yard pool gives the entire family a place to cool off during those hot summer days. While the kids swim around, you can grill up some food at the nearby barbecue. With social activities being a common occurrence, this country club provides an opportunity to enjoy yourself and meet new people. The club has multiple membership options available, each with its own cost.

Costo

-

The city carries a slight premium over the county average. Prices for leasing apartments or houses can be reasonable, although they also vary quite a bit depending on the specific area and the type of residence. A one-bedroom apartment averages out at $1,082, so you may find cheaper arrangements.

A bus ride to the city center costs $1.25, and gas prices come in around 14 percent higher than the national average. A pint at the local pub will cost you about $6.

Compras

-

A balance of upscale shopping centers and charming boutiques defines the shopping experience in the area. Boutique De Balloon specializes in balloon arrangements for various special occasions, from children's birthday parties to corporate events and weddings.

Try on some new clothes at Envy Me Fashions, pamper yourself at Peaches & Cream, then grab a quick bite at Kara's Korner Deli, all located at The Village Glendora. The spread-out shopping center has a small-town atmosphere, making it a fun place to stroll through with friends and family. The Village frequently holds events to spice things up, particularly around holidays.

Several major grocery stores make their homes in Glendora, including Ralphs, Vons, Stater Bros., Albertsons and Walmart. Surrounding neighborhoods have farmers markets, but you can get fresh organic produce with Abundant Harvest Organic. Get other farm-fresh items added on, such as eggs, milk and meat, when you place an order, and then pick up your box at the delivery site conveniently located at the Glendora Community Church.
