Historia

-

Cheverly neighborhood came to be during World War I and was founded by a man named Robert Marshall. Marshall bought the land and it was deemed Cheverly in 1918. The neighborhood's name derives from Cheverly Gardens, which was a subdivision near the Landover railroad station. Marshall later bought this area of land for the community as well. Although the neighborhood was incorporated during the Great Depression, its hardworking community was able to overcome economic struggles and keep developing.

This neighborhood displays its great sense of community by holding an annual event called Cheverly Day, in which residents can eat, listen to live music and play sports. Holiday events for Halloween, Easter and Christmas also occur annually. Here, both adults and children can participate in activities. To explore the neighborhood's history, people can visit plantation houses that have survived throughout the years.

Restaurantes y Bares

-

Due to Cheverly's size, the neighborhood does not contain many restaurants, and the nightlife here ends early in the evening. However, for residents who want to go clubbing or discover other food options, several neighborhoods lie around Cheverly, and Washington, D.C., is just 20 minutes away.

Ledo Pizza Restaurant on Landover Road perfects the art of pizza. Diners have the option of creating their own pie or ordering one straight off the menu. A vegetarian menu assures that every diner can order something they will love. Other options such as soups, calzones, and sandwiches will leave you full after your meal.

Another Italian option in Cheverly named Fratelli Italian Restaurant has tasty calamari that blends together crisp and smooth textures. Its trout stuffed with crab meat will shock your tastebuds with its unique flavors. Fratelli's is family owned, and the staff will make you feel at home.

If you're craving something other than Italian, Fab Grill N Seafood serves Mexican, BBQ, and American food options that are sure to please any taste palate. This location on Landover Road serves breakfast all day long, but they also have loaded french fries, juicy wings, and the best philly cheesesteaks in the area.

-

Most residents of Cheverly have their own vehicles, and plentiful public parking makes the decision to drive easy. The neighborhood's small size ensures that travel from one location to another will always be relatively easy. Miles of sidewalks provide the option to bike or walk as well. Cheverly is conveniently located between Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Maryland Route 50, so traveling to other neighborhoods and Washington, D.C. never requires much effort or time.

For residents who prefer public transportation, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit authority has metrobuses and metrorails that run throughout the area. Uber also services the neighborhood, and the Greenbelt Taxi Service and Capitol Cab Company can be hailed with a phone call.

Parques

-

Although Cheverly's square mileage can be defined as small, the neighborhood contains 10 parks for everyone to enjoy. The parks are completely free and perfect for an afternoon to relax with friends and families.

For example, Boyd Park lies on Sate Street and 64th Avenue. It comes fully stocked with a playground that will entertain children for hours, basketball courts, tennis courts, and grills to provide family and friends with the perfect picnic. A nature and fitness trail encourages exploring the outdoors while also getting exercise. Residents of the neighborhood have access to renting the pavilion in the park.

The Cheverly-East Neighborhood Park also has a playground for children as well as a tennis court and basketball courts. This park on Oak Street has baseball fields so that every sporting event can be enjoyed here.

On Cheverly Avenue and Arbor Street lies Magruder Spring Park. This spring has a great history with the neighborhood, as it was used by the British as they marched to Washington in 1814. The springs can refresh everyone after a day in the sun or a hard day at work.

Compras

-

Because Cheverly is only slightly larger than a square mile, not many stores exist in the actual neighborhood itself. However, retail shopping centers exist nearby that can be accessible by car or bus. For example, The Mall at Prince Georges is about 15 minutes away. This shopping center has stores such as Macy's, Bath & Body Works, Best Buy Mobile, and Old Navy.

Most of Cheverly's residents find groceries at Aldi. However, a huge bonus to living in this neighborhood includes the Cheverly Community Market. This farmers market comes to the Cheverly Community Center during the second half of the year. Here, residents can search through local fruits, veggies, wine, fresh-baked bread and fish. People can buy breakfast while they shop, and live music performed by local artists gives the market a lively feel. The market supports local farming and businesses, further displaying its excellent sense of community.
