Brookside Woods developed around the most elite club in Columbus, the Brookside Golf & Country Club, built in 1927. The homes in the neighborhood have been built up slowly next to the historic club. Brookside Golf & Country Club hosts a variety of annual social events including wine dinners, family movie nights and father-daughter dances. The club also serves as the location for several summer camps and programs for local children.

Not far from downtown, Brookside Woods is a stone's throw from The Ohio Expo Center, which annually hosts the popular Ohio State Fair and has done so every summer since 1886. A Columbus tradition, this fair has over a week of exciting events and family fun for Columbus residents and Ohioans statewide.

Located in northwest Columbus, Brookside Woods sits close to many of the local restaurants and bars. A great number of restaurants right outside Brookside Woods, in nearby northwest Columbus, provide unique menu items from a variety of international cuisines. Located in the Northwest District, Los Guachos Taqueria provides a popular Mexican menu known for tasty tacos and other daily specials. Plenty of other nearby specialty restaurants are known and loved by the residents of Brookside Woods and surrounding neighborhoods.

Visit Flannagan’s Dublin, with its several sand volleyball courts and an annual St. Patrick's Day bash, and Local Bar Short North on High Street, popular for an incredible selection of draft beers and food specials. Both have great food and drinks for all of the fun-loving residents around the Brookside Woods area. Just down the street from Brookside Woods, My Bar 161 and McClellan’s Pub also have local happy hours and other specials for a lively evening out with cheaper domestic beer than you'll find at larger, busier locations. The dance clubs or high-activity nightclubs exist closer to the University District, leaving Brookside Woods with plenty of sports bars and relaxing spots close by for comfortable, social nights out.

With Brookside Woods developed mostly with small two-lane streets throughout the neighborhood, primary transportation usually involves individual personal vehicles. Brookside Woods has some dedicated bicycle lanes and trails within the neighborhood, making short-distance transportation convenient within the immediate area. Plenty of scheduled taxi services, including Uber, are available 24 hours a day around the city for quick rides. Public transportation in Columbus is managed by the Central Ohio Transit Authority, offering regular bus schedules in and out of downtown and to the university, for commutes to work, errands and other local journeys.

Brookside Woods Park, a small 1.9-acre location inside the community, includes an open shelter, basketball court, picnic area, walking trail and playground set amid the beautiful scenery. Just to the west, the Sawmill State Wildlife Education Area exists with support from the Brookside Woods Civic Association, and the progress of these local wetlands is constantly updated on the neighborhood website. The locally maintained nature preserve has plenty of land for backpacking, outdoor recreation and children’s activities.

Godown Dog Park is in the northwest Columbus area, just to the east of Brookside Woods, with sections specifically mandated for off-leash small and large dogs. A dog water fountain provides refreshment for all the four-legged patrons who come to play, and benches are scattered throughout the park for the two-legged keepers. The park landscape includes a tunnel, paths, hills and trees, making up a vast doggy play area. Hayden Falls Park provides northwest Columbus with a beautiful waterfall and nature preserve, including a winding walking path and a woods and wildlife area within the preserve.

Riverside Green Park lies in northwest Columbus as well, with 5.6 acres available for lots of child- and family-friendly activities. The park has a basketball court, picnic areas, a shelter, a playground and tennis courts for athletic competitions and fun any time.
