Historia

-

The first settlement in Baytown dates all the way back to 1822, with three separate towns eventually forming in the area. These towns merged after World War I, despite initial residential opposition, to become what is now considered the Baytown area. The emergence of off-shore oil drilling and the creation of the Baytown Refinery by former Texas governor Ross Sterling led to prominence in the area, as Baytown became home to the world's largest Exxon Mobil refinery. To this day, Exxon employs more people than any business in town. Oscar-winning actress Renée Zellweger and country musician Chris Cagel both grew up in Baytown, and other notable former residents include Oscar-wining screenwriter William Broyles, Jr. and NFL veteran Kirk Botkin.

Baytown Historical Museum on West Defee Street chronicles the rich history of the area and explores the community's proud tradition. Families enjoy the annual Christmas parade down Texas Avenue, and the yearly Pasadena Strawberry Festival features headlining performances by popular country bands.

Nara Thai Dining treats diners to an escape from Texas with authentic Thai cuisine and a full-service sushi bar. Fresh fish, reasonable prices and a friendly staff make this restaurant a Baytown favorite.

Cold beer, a laid-back atmosphere and a large patio hold the promise of a good time at Pipeline Grill, another favorite on Garth Road. From fire-baked pizzas to hearty sandwiches and tacos, its eclectic menu contains something for everyone to relish. Save a few dollars by coming early for the early bird special--a giant slice of pizza and a domestic beer.

Transporte

-

Due to the housing and infrastructure of the community, Baytown requires a vehicle for most errand running. Parking is easy to find, and predominately free. For cab service, call Baytown Express Taxi ahead of time to schedule your trip, as cabs are generally not hailed in this primarily residential area. Uber also serves the area. If, however, you prefer a public method of transportation, the neighborhood also offers a few alternatives. Bus routes on Greyhound Lines scattered throughout the city and the Harris County Transit present viable options for residents.

Interstate 10 and Spur 330 are easily accessible from Baytown, making travelling in and outside the area extremely convenient. The Fred Hartman Bridge connects Baytown to surrounding areas and provides a scenic drive over the Houston Ship Channel.
