Historia

-

The Ohlone people originally inhabited the Bayshore area before Spanish missionaries arrived. Over the next several decades, the land was used for cattle and dairy farming. Hunter’s Point, located on the border of Bayshore, became a significant area for shipbuilding after it completed the Pacific coast’s first permanent dry dock in 1867. Expansion of these dry docks and their ability to house large ships led to an increase in Naval vessel building contracts.

The Bayview Opera House is a neighborhood center dedicated to the art and culture of the community. The Bayview library houses a historical collection of significant events and details. Hunter's Point Shipyard is also the largest artist colony in the country.
