The city of Everett was settled in 1630 as part of Charlestown. It became an independent city in 1892. Everett features a historic downtown filled with shops and restaurants, and it is located along the Mystic River across from Boston. As part of the Port of Boston, Everett is one of the principal cargo handling facilities -- especially for bulk cargo and petroleum.
A large section of the Revere Beach Parkway -- a historic route listed on the National Register of Historic Places -- is located in Everett. Work on the parkway began in 1896 and leads to Revere Beach, the nation's first public beach established in 1895. If you choose to rent an apartment in Everett, you'll be about four miles from this popular beach. You'll also be less than three miles from Downtown Boston, with the MBTA Orange Line available for car-free commuting.
