Downtown Durango is also the location of several festivals and events, including the Snowdown Festival, the Durango Ragtime & Early Jazz Festival, and Music in the Mountains.
Downtown Durango is also a college town, home to Fort Lewis College. This public liberal arts college sits on a bluff overlooking downtown, and its mountain views are spectacular. Fort Lewis College, once a military fort, opened as a college in 1911. Other downtown destinations include the Durango Silverton Train Museum, the Durango Wildlife Museum, and the Powerhouse Science Center.
