South Bend's Southside neighborhood has undergone a metamorphosis of sorts in the modern era. The neighborhood developed around a Studebaker automobile plant in the mid-20th century, and the neighborhood still retains some of its industrial roots. The area that used to contain the Studebaker plant now houses Ignition Park, a technology and business park that’s home to a large number of employers.
