Living here has been the worst experience we have ever had! The apartments are full of mold, cockroaches and bedbugs! We had to put our belongings in a separate storage facility just to not lose everything we had due to the pest infestation. (and we still lost some of our belongings bc we were scared of any pests traveling with us) It is loud, some neighbors are disrespectful and fight in the parking lot. You tell the front desk and they appear as if they care but nothing changes. Unacceptable.
I lived at Cherry Grove Commons for six years and moved to Virginia for a promotion. I was told because I was breaking the lease that I would be charged somewhere between $1500-2000 for moving out early (the staff could not give a definite dollar amount for some reason until I actually left). While I expected to be charged for leaving I did not expect to be charged so much. Also, they payments cannot be made online; they have to be mailed and received in the form of a cashiers check or money order. When I called to ask for a receipt after the first payment was made I was told they could not. I don’t know why this is an insurmountable task for Cherry Grove Commons but I’ve never been to an establishment that can’t furnish a receipt. Customer service does. It exist at this establishment and apparently their equipment is so antiquated that they cannot furnish a receipt for a payment of $100? Very disappointed and I highly recommend you look elsewhere.
New owners and new management caused a dramatic swing in livability. They recently evicted a dead woman (who passed away during the eviction process) over a refused retro-active rent increase of $50. [Rented for 2 years with rent always on time...] It was nice to find a two-bedroom apartment with private baths for both rooms. The layout was ideal for a live-in caregiver and a Hospice patient with severe Dementia. Everything worked well until the new owners and new management started trying to squeeze extra money out of tenants under the excuse that the previous management failed to keep good paperwork.
These apartments are a little pricey but they are right in North Myrtle, not even 5 minutes from Main St. and about 10 minutes to 22. While the living room and dining room are one room, so if you actually have a dining table, the living room can seem a bit small, but the bedrooms are spacious and the closets are HUGE. You can probably fit a dresser in there too! Water is included in the rent and when you're taking a shower it feels like the hot water never runs out. They also have washer & dryer rentals available, which is convenient if you hate laundromats like I do. The units come with kitchen appliances, though the stove is a little outdated, and it doesn't come with a microwave. However the freezer has an ice machine that works pretty efficiently. I've never had a problem with maintenance. There is a 24/7 number to call. I've never had to call late but the couple of times I've called they have shown up within a couple of hours. They are also always walking around the lot so you see them around quite a bit. They will even do mundane things like change a light bulb if you ask them to. There is only one garbage disposal and it is at the front of the property, so if you're in building 3 or 4 that can kind of suck, but that's where the mailboxes are too, so I make it a very accomplished trip. All in all, I enjoy this apartment. The location is perfect and there is just enough space. The view from the balcony is always nice and there is always plenty of parking. The neighbors are friendly and there are plenty of areas to walk my dog.
I am 70 and my wonderful husband is 77. We had to sell our home because my husband experienced 2 Cardiac Death Events and had to have defibrillator installed. He can no longer drive & must have me with him at all times. We rented at Cherry Grove Commons. Our Apartment is small and crowded. There are 4 Buildings with 4 floors housing 38 apartments per Building, Walls are thin. We can hear lots of noise from neighbors. Not enough Closet Space. We had to install a Full Wall unit to help accommodate our clothes. Signed year lease which is up the end of September 2015.
