Loosely defined by some as South Cleveland, this sprawling suburban area encompasses a number of communities in and around Medina and Brunswick, Ohio. This wide-reaching area lacks the sheer urban sprawl of Cleveland, instead offering a laid-back, affordable community for renters looking to be close to the city but want a bit more space or a touch of peace and quiet.
You’ll find affordable apartment communities with plenty of amenities, a wide variety of single-family homes, townhomes, condos, and more in South Cleveland. Its location outside of Downtown Cleveland means there’s a pastoral atmosphere and plenty of green spaces to appreciate as well. U.S. Highway 42 and Interstate 71 serve as the major thoroughfares and arteries into the city.

Property Ratings at Canvas at Valor Acres
Not Worth the Price First and foremost, this apartment is significantly overpriced for what it offers—especially considering its location. The base rent is steep, and essential services like trash, parking, water, electricity, internet, and access to amenities all come with additional monthly fees. This level of pricing might make more sense in a walkable urban area with access to restaurants, shops, and transit—not in a suburban, isolated development. Disappointing Location The building is located far from anything useful or interesting. It’s surrounded by an unfinished construction site that saw very little progress during my year there. The adjacent development was advertised as a vibrant new district, but aside from one office building, the area mostly consisted of dirt and construction vehicles. Amenities Don't Match the Hype The apartments are marketed as luxury, but that term feels generous. The finishes and appliances are basic, and the design feels sterile and impersonal. The dishwasher is noisy, water pressure is low, and the hot water tank seems undersized. There are no upscale features like a doorman, secure package area, or extra storage. Thin walls and windows mean that noise—whether from neighbors, pets, or traffic—travels easily. Some residents even use the indoor garage as personal storage, which adds to the clutter. Cafe/Bar On Site—Not a Perk There’s a lobby café/bar that hosts community events, but I didn’t find it particularly useful. It doesn’t offer regular discounts to residents, and I often preferred to go elsewhere. Given the already high monthly cost, spending even more here felt excessive. The bar area also sometimes made the building feel more like a venue than a home. Not Ideal for Families Although the school district is a plus, the building itself is not suited for families. I have two children, and there was very little for them to do. Construction trucks were a constant presence, making the area unsafe for biking or outdoor play. Children under 16 aren't allowed at the pool without an adult, which limits recreational use for older kids. Final Thoughts I wouldn’t recommend this building, particularly for families or younger renters who could find more lively or better-located options for a better value. It may appeal to older adults with larger budgets who prioritize on-site social events, but overall, it falls short in too many areas to justify the price.
I’ve lived at Canvas for nearly a year and it’s been an amazing experience. The location is unbeatable—just 2 minutes from I-77—making commuting super easy. The area feels very safe, and the secure access to amenities like the pool, gym, and elevators gives me peace of mind. The community is quiet and peaceful, yet there are great social spots like the on-site bar (highly recommend the hazelnut espresso martinis). I also enjoy walks by the nearby lake. The pool is stunning, and the entire complex is clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is incredibly kind and responsive—they truly make it feel like home. If you’re looking for a secure, convenient, and welcoming place to live, I highly recommend Canvas.
