Calais Village is a community in Pinellas County, Fla., a county that houses 13 cities and 13 unincorporated communities, including St. Petersburg, Tampa and Clearwater. The history of Pinellas County dates back to the year 1900, when the area was first inhabited by the Tocobaga chiefdom.

In 1823, Fort Brooke was established in the area by the U.S. Army, and eventually became the city of Tampa. Between 1921 and 1924, the real estate boom resulted in the development of multiple homes, bridges and roads. By 1955, Clearwater had become the most rapidly growing city in the United States.

Pinellas County's Heritage Village living history museum consists of 21 acres, featuring several historic 19th century buildings and homes, as well as a school and a church. When traveling out of the immediate community, drivers have convenient access to the Interstate 275 Freeway via 16th Street North, 54th Avenue and 22nd Avenue South.

Residents and visitors can park for free on certain residential streets, but must only park within the time limits specified on the area's parking enforcement signs. When parking in downtown St. Petersburg, drivers can utilize paid parking meters and parking garages located throughout the area.

Calais Village residents live in close proximity to several free outdoor parks with various amenities, provided by the Pinellas County Parks and Recreation Department and the St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department. Sawgrass Lake Park on 25th Street North features a mile-long boardwalk and a dirt trail set along a maple swamp that allow visitors to observe birds, turtles and alligators in their natural habitats. If you're looking for a spacious, dog-friendly area, check out Walter Fuller Park on 26th Avenue North. This 133-acre park features an off-leash dog area and a separate spot for smaller dogs, as well as drinking stations and walking paths. Walter Fuller Park also features amazing amenities for kids and adults alike, including a swimming pool, exercise trail, tennis courts and playground equipment.

Pinellas County hosts multiple community events throughout the year that help to strengthen community ties and celebrate the county's history.
