Strewn along I-75 between Naples and Fort Myers, the Village of Estero is named after the Spanish word for estuary, where the river meets the sea. Bordering the Estero Bay, Estero is just minutes away from a host of beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, including Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, and Captiva Island. Historically a major citrus producer, Estero is now known for its metropolitan shopping and golfing opportunities.
Large retail centers like the Miromar Outlets and Coconut Point lie within Estero’s borders, while the Gulf Coast Town Center is just a short drive up I-75. Estero is a golfer’s paradise, with ten golf courses located throughout the village. Outdoor recreation abounds at Mound Key Archeological State Park and Lovers Key State Park, which are both accessible via the Estero Bay. Estero also houses Koreshan State Historic Site in addition to the Germain Arena, which hosts games for the Florida Everblades ECHL ice hockey team.
