Situated near the Atlantic City Expressway and including part of the vast Wharton State Forest, Hammonton is a terrific New Jersey City roughly halfway between Philadelphia and Atlantic City. With the casinos and shows of the coastal Atlantic City and the historic sites and major businesses of Philadelphia both about 30 miles away, Hammonton starts great and only gets better when you begin to explore the charming, historic downtown and gorgeous neighborhoods.
Hammonton, which dates back to 1812, was named for one of the town's early settlers. It is known as the "Blueberry Capital of the World" and features the Red, White, and Blueberry Festival every year. Another popular festival, the Hammonton Wine Festival, celebrates the town's other claim to fame -- winemaking. Hammonton is home to Tomasello Winery, DiMatteo Vineyards, and Plagido's Winery.
