The best place to live in Carbondale, if you're a drug addict or a dope pusher.

If you want to get forcibly high against your own volition due to the sheer volume of second-hand dope that will be permeating your apartment almost 24-7, then this is the place for you. For everyone else, it is easily 0 stars out of 10. The management will do absolutely NOTHING about it, despite the very clear stipulation in the leasing agreement that smoking in any part of the building is contractually prohibited. Why they do not can only be speculated. One can hazard a guess. Avoid this dump like the drug den it is.

BROOKSIDE

If I didn't have to move, I wouldn't have. I loved everything about living here. Being so close to everything...schools, SIU rec center, shopping...was such a privilege...but what I truly loved was feeling like I was so close to nature. The grounds were always nicely maintained...the light in the apartment was always lovely...and it was a 10 minute drive to Giant City State Park. I also have to say that it never took more than an hour to get a problem fixed. Just a great place to live.

Wish I could stay!

I have lived here for 9 months and if I wasn't moving out of state I would love to stay. Utilities are all included which is great, the dog park is also great for my dogs & they don't have a weight limit which is what drew me to them! If you have a dog I highly recommend this place, your dog is welcome just about everywhere you are. There are pet waste stations all over the property & they have fountains and treats in the office for your dogs too. 1 bedroom apartments aren't upgraded but they will happily show you what you are getting before you move in. Laundry facilities are great here too. The only complaint I have is the sidewalks and yard flood every time there is a little rain. Maintenance is always friendly and fast.. The staff is always friendly and so helpful, even before I moved in! They are always doing things to improve Brookside. I will update if anything changes upon move out but the last 9 months have been awesome!

Good Space for Great Price

With utilities (minus internet) included, it's a great deal! Only qualm I have is the lack of choices for Internet service. It's either Mediacom or Frontier. They spray for bugs every few months and they keep the property looking nice. They shovel the walkways in the winter so it's safe to walk. Kitchen is alright, could be a little nicer but the gas stove is really good. Not a lot of counter space but it's enough for a microwave and toaster. Love the walk in closet in the master bedroom! I live on the second floor so I have a balcony which is really nice and spacious. 20 min walk to campus and 30 mins to the strip. Really close to Kroger and other grocers. All in all, 4 out of 5.

Great for Students and locals alike!

After getting out of the military me and my small family were a little scared to move to a college town like carbondale. We knew we had to in order to go to school but we were scared of the party school stories. It is less a mile away from the college and we could not have been more wrong. We have lived here for almost a year now and we have NEVER been kept up at night by parties nor has my son ever been forced to witness any college kid debauchery. The bed rooms are good sizes, the rent is reasonable and the staff is very receptive to complaints. The maintenance crew are very nice and personable and come out to fix things very quickly. The only reason that I am not giving Brookside full stars is because the doors lead outdoors and we have had issues with breezes blowing the door open, so we have to keep it locked all of the time. Also the A.C is kind of loud. But if these aren't small problems I don't know what is. I would recomend Brookside too anyone in Carbondale or who will be for school.

Worst place I have ever lived in my life

the apartments overall were nice. However, the people managing the buildings and the corporate office are ridiculous, unprofessional, and need better training. I was told on the day I moved out that my roommate and I would have our account sent to collections because my roommates check had bounced from a previous months payment. They did not reflect that in out receipts or anything. And they never made any comment about it. I thought our payments were up to date up until the day that our lease was up. So now I have a $2000 on my credit report that has absolutely nothing to do with me.
