Spring Festivals & Events in Chapel Hill, NC


Winter is over and spring has officially sprung in Chapel Hill. The daily highs are stretching into the 70s and wildflowers are blooming throughout the city. It’s time to venture out from your apartment to explore some of the many vibrant festivals and events inspired by this season of growth.


Near and Far Festival
April 8, 2018

Held in Downtown Chapel Hill, the annual Near and Far Festival is a local celebration of global culture. Numerous cultural groups from the community and the UNC campus set up tents, booths, and tables to share their heritage through a variety of activities, crafts, and cuisine. Live performances range from Nordic folk to Korean pop while diverse food trucks serve all kinds of international fare.

Part of the month-long North Carolina Science Festival, EATsploration explores the science of food. Attendees have the opportunity to learn more about the artistry, biology, and chemistry of some of their favorite meals through a wide variety of challenges, activities, and immersive exhibits. Looking at food molecules with smartphone microscopes, tossing pizza dough with Alfredo’s Pizza Villa, and making ice cream with Maple View Ice Cream are among the many popular activities available.

UNC Science Expo

Drawing nearly 10,000 visitors every year, the UNC Science Expo is also part of the month-long North Carolina Science Festival. Expo attendees enjoy an array of activities, exhibits, challenges, and tours courtesy of the UNC departments of Physics and Astronomy, Marine Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, and Exercise and Sports Science. Food trucks are also on site, providing numerous options for lunch, snacks, and drinks.


Rodeo on Rosemary

Hosted by Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation, the Downtown Partnership, and the Raleigh Durham Mobile Food Association (RDUMFA), this year’s Spring Food Truck Rodeo features 15 Triangle food trucks on East Rosemary Street between Henderson and North Columbia Streets. Mini golf and various forms of family-friendly entertainment are also available alongside a host of tasty treats.
