Marshall is a charming and secluded small city in southwestern Minnesota. The city is best known as the home of Southwest Minnesota State University, whose campus on the northeast side of town serves around 4,000 students and employs hundreds of locals as faculty and staff members. On the east side of campus, Red Baron Arena is the city’s most active events center, hosting everything from ice hockey to trade shows throughout the year.
Downtown Marshall features a thriving collective of restaurants, specialty shops, bars, and other storefront businesses occupying the historic buildings along Main Street: Grab you morning coffee at Daily Grind, head down to Wooden Nickel for a burger at lunchtime, or cap of the evening with a cocktail at The Gambler.

Property Ratings at Birchwood Apartments
DO NOT RENT. Units are managed by on-site managers that are constantly changing due to a horrible owner/ landlord who operates out of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Current on-site managers are moving in less than a year of living here because of the owner's unprofessional attitude and condescending management tactics. The owner, Dave, is extremely vindictive with horrible management tactics. He is hands on when he wants to be which is basically just to assert his role as "owner" with little care or regard for the actual well being of tenants. Especially if you have a pet, DO NOT RENT. I own a small corgi mix and was FORCED out of my unit because my dog could be heard barking. The owner singled me out months prior and made me out to be a problem when in fact I am a graduate student working 60 hours a week and have never once caused an issue with a neighbor or been late on rent. He never cared to know who I was or how I actually treated others, he simply came up with his own conclusions before meeting me (likely that I was a no good college student causing problems) and acted on them in court with eviction. When he first accused me of being a problem, I requested that he let me move elsewhere. This was never going to happen because he wanted to collect on the rent for the rest of my lease and/or sublease fees despite the fact that he kept claiming that he was looking after the safety of his tenants (no tenants in any other buildings seem to be afraid of a small corgi dog). I was eventually forced to pay a lawyer to reach a settlement that included paying him the hundreds of dollars it cost to file an eviction against me FOR A DOG BARKING. Again, owner manages from over two hours away and has NO idea what's going on his building while also showing a love for asserting his status as the building's owner. Not only was I evicted because my dog barked (from inside my unit) on the owners one visit of the year to Marshall, he also accused me of lighting the building on fire.... ??? A building I was still living in with all of my belongings mind you. Rent from Northern Management and it may possibly be the biggest regret of your renting life (it was for me). I've lived in six other rental units over the past six years while I've been in school and never had an issue with a landlord until Birchwood Apartments. For the same price (if not less), you can find so many better options in Marshall.
