Donna, Texas is named for Donna Hooks, the daughter of a land developer in the 1900s. Weslaco’s history dates back to 1916, when the US Army established a camp close to the US-Mexico border. The camp was used as a training facility during WW1. The Queen City of Mercedes is one of the oldest cities in the Rio Grande Valley, founded in 1907.

Students in Mercedes will attend either the Mercedes Independent School District or the Weslaco Independent School District, depending on their location.
