Resembling a Norman Rockwell painting, Downtown New Bern is beautiful -- the old-world architecture nestled in the trees, the boutiques and restaurants along shady streets, and the river views combine to make this North Carolina location a hidden gem. The city's history is long and fascinating -- Pepsi Cola was invented here in 1893, and in 1862 a Civil War battle, Battle of New Bern, was fought here. New Bern was first settled in 1710 and it is home to four historic districts. Learn more about the city's colonial beginnings at Tryon Palace, a gorgeous landmark built in 1770 and the state's first capital building.
In addition to Tryon Palace, Downtown New Bern is home to the New Bern Fireman's Museum, the New Bern Historical Society, and the New Bern-Craven County Convention & Visitors Center. Downtown New Bern is located along the Neuse and Trent Rivers, and Point Union Park is located at the confluence of the two rivers.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Bearfoot Landing Apartments
I only had a 6-month lease and my AC was broken for half of it. As a single father with an infant, this was unacceptable. The property manager has already changed twice, and the current one, Eileen, is extremely unprofessional — she constantly got my name wrong and was finding excuses to enter my apartment almost weekly. Roaches are everywhere, the promised pest control never happens, and I was never told the unit below mine would be remodeled. That meant months of nonstop construction noise from 7am–8pm, seven days a week. No compensation was ever offered. Downstairs neighbors own a dog that they never cleaned up after, so the entire building of E smells like dog pee since they never let their German Shepherd out, the poor thing. I was threatened to be fined by Eileen due to "her having reason to believe" that I was both walking my dog off leash, and not cleaning up after her. She was seemingly able to threaten me, but has yet to do anything about an entire building smelling like urine. Also, they do QUARTERLY apartment inspections on a two day notice!!! Imagine having someone violate your privacy by going through your fridge, cabinets, closests, etc 4 times a year with only 2 days notice. Eileen WILL open your cabinets too trust me. There are plenty of apartments in this price range that are much better. Do yourself a favor and avoid Bearfoot Landings.
Property Manager at Bearfoot Landing Apartments, Responded To This Review
Please accept our apologies for this unacceptable experience. Your concerns about AC, pest control, and privacy violations are serious. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
We were told we had to pay the security deposit before we were able to see the lease. The lease was different from what we were told, and when we were no longer interested in the property they said the security deposit was non-refundable.
The management team and owner are amazing. They genuinely care about their tenants and have gone above and beyond what most owners would on their remodel of the units. I would highly recommend Barefoot landing.
