With the Kennebec River flowing throughout the town, Maine’s capital Augusta is a rural locale filled with history. In 1628, English settlers from Plymouth Colony used the capital city as a trading post. Dedicated to preserving the state’s history, many of the activities revolve around celebrating the past. Visit the Old Fort Western, America’s oldest surviving wooden fort where Benedict Arnold attempted to capture Quebec during the American Revolution.
