About This Property
This Italianate brick villa home was constructed in 1867 by the well known Perrin Brothers Builders of Lafayette who built several homes in the area around the same time period. The Ironwork was not original to the construction but was added in 1910. The building has 3 One Bedrooms and 1 One Bedroom with office apartment, laundry facility in the building, a spacious, well-kept yard and ample private off-street parking. All of the apartments have central air. The first owner of the home was the noted Samuel Ramsey Seawright, a physician, whose personal life is documented among historical biographies of noteworthy men and women of the city of Lafayette. The unique ornate wrought ironwork on the exterior marks this home a worthy landmark on North 9th Street. It is believed, through study of documentation, that Dr. Seawright had travelled to New Orleans and had a great appreciation for the wrought iron on many of the buildings in that city and decided to adorn his home with the same type of elaborate exterior ornamentation.
