About This Property

Nestled in the heart of the historic district of Mount Clemens is a Victorian neighborhood that time forgot. A place where young Thomas Edison learned telegraphy at the railroad depot site on Grand Street. Surprisingly, the oldest and most quaint turn of the century homes in this neighborhood are still for rent. They are affordable, picturesque, and charming…here is your chance to live in the days gone by of the horse and buggy whip. Compared to San Francisco or Philadelphia, these mini mansions of grandeur can be rented for a song. Wake up every day with a song in your heart and birds singing that drives you to burst; “Good morning, America…how are ya?” as you merrily go along happily and smiling and living in the past. Yesteryear is here and memories to embrace. Go ahead and be a kid again, I double dog dare ya...dig deep in your pocket for a greenback and grab an ice cream from the neighborhood popsicle wagon. Then casually stroll through the peaceful tree line streets and listen to the children laughing and playing. In the distance on the southbound odyssey a train whistle is blowing. The iron horse comes rockin’ through town with a gentle beat…her golden age wheels rumble and as they pass the houses, the rhythm fades as she rides down the magic carpet made of steel. The demand always exceeds supply to live in this time by-gone era. Once renters move in, they never want to move from the old-fashioned sanctuary of blessed quiet and the peaceful quaint lifestyle. I am a master plumber, and I am renovating a turn of the century Victorian built in 1895. The apartment on the second floor has been restored from top to bottom and is ready to be rented. The view to the streets below is grand and private. I purchased this property from an eccentric couple who had a green thumb. They also loved the natural look of Michigan country stones, and they lined the borders throughout the whole property with these colorful sparkling rocks. They loved trees and there must be 30 to 40 different kinds and a Botany of evergreens, some resembling the weeping willow. From the rear second floor window of the apartment, you can observe the natural beauty and privacy of the towering pine trees that veil the surrounding neighborhood. The pillars that once graced the grand entrance to the Japanese garden are still there. And at one time colorful flowers flourished and covered the garden landscape like a quilted colorful blanket. There are only remnant patches left, maybe someday it will be brought back. For now, this grand old lady is being refurbished back to her glory days.

City - Mount Clemens

Located next to Selfridge Air Force Base, Mount Clemens is a picturesque city along Clinton River, just five minutes from Lake Saint Clair. I-94 borders the city on its east side, leading to Downtown Detroit in about 30 minutes. Downtown Mount Clemens is quintessential Midwest, complete with false-front architecture, brick-paved walkways, and period lighting.

With a history dating back to 1796 (and as one of Michigan's oldest cities), Mount Clemens was originally known as "High Banks." The surveyor who arrived here in the late 1700s, Christian Clemens, is considered the city's founder. He purchased land along the river in 1801 and plotted out the village. He named his village after himself -- Mount Clemens. The small village grew quickly when mineral baths began to attract tourists to the area. Today, Mount Clemens is a popular city with a variety of parks, good schools, and a fantastic downtown shopping district.
