Property Ratings at 841 Solano Ave
I am always hesitant to review an apartment complex based on my personal experiences, however I feel like this place deserves a RENTER BEWARE from a former tenant. First thing to note is that there is no on-site management. Normally this isn't a huge issue, but it has become abundantly clear with this particular apartment complex, this means nothing ever gets fixed without waiting at least a month. In a building as old as this one is, that is a big problem, as things are sometimes literally falling apart. For example, in October or November of 2019, the hot water heater that served the complex failed. It took 3 weeks for a replacement to arrive, and another week for it to be hooked up and functioning throughout the building. Then it was another month before hot water was restored to the washing Machine. (Yes, there is only one Washing machine and Dryer serving an 8 unit building.) Long time renters in the building have also reported that when they've requested urgent repairs, they were immediately told afterwards their rent was being increased, which has caused many to be hesitant in requesting. There are lots of broken lights, and janky electrical fixtures that are visible from the exterior of the building. After the new hot water heater was installed, the old one literally sat in the garage for a full year, just taking up space. It was only hauled off the day before they showed a recently vacated apartment to new potential tenants. Also: The management company has contracted individuals, who really love coming at 8am with loud (illegal in Albany) gas powered leaf blowers that will really quickly make everything smell like gasoline and exhaust for the next several hours, as an FYI. But hey, it does have a nice view of the Golden Gate. That's pretty much all you're paying for. Sidenote: The next door neighbors on the hill are very nice, but it's not a great place if you work night shifts, or have migraines, as their children seem to have discovered uncharted decibels in the sonic spectrum and I'm sure would have fantastic careers if they chose as either soccer announcers (yelling GOAL for 5 minutes straight) or Opera singers. I've since left the complex, but I hope the management company really re-evaluates why they're in this business, and soon.
