It was the first school in the United States licensed to educate dental hygienists and to train women for what was at the time a new profession. The organization relocated in 1978, leaving the building vacant for many decades. It was eventually listed on the National Register of Historic Places and identified as one of the Five to Revive landmarks on The Landmark Society of Western New York’s 2013 Endangered Places. The adaptations and preservation of this magnificent building made for irregular designs of each apartment, many with oversized windows, ornate woodwork and high ceilings. The children’s waiting room, one of the property’s most beautiful spaces, was converted into a community room with a kitchenette. The adjacent library and lounge are adorned with replicated murals and woodcarvings.
