About This Property
Rental description: SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE! This is a charming older 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house in downtown Bayfield. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood on a dead end street. Originally a 1960’s trailer house, the several small additions, siding, and front porch make it difficult to tell. Often described affectionately as shabby chic, the small and funky space is closer to rustic and further from modern. The small windows let in wonderful morning light in the kitchen and bedrooms. The sun set puts on a show through the large windows in the family/living room space in the evenings; likely unrivaled by another downtown Bayfield home. The windows might be hand me downs from the old gymnasium or school next door and are a unique and special quality of the home. The space the windows look out on is owned by the town and is not developed. The view lends the feeling of living in the country while being only two blocks from historic Mill St., downtown Bayfield. The ceilings are low in the kitchen and bedrooms. This makes it easy to reach up to turn off the smoke detector while cooking Sunday morning breakfast and when turkey drippings splash inside the retro gas oven over the holidays. It also persuades visitors standing somewhere around 6 feet tall to duck through the doorways and under light fixtures. Both bathrooms come with some of the original retro bathroom finishes. The sink, bathtub, and toilet are lavender in the larger of the two small bathrooms, and the cutest sink there ever was in the half bath is sky blue. Toddlers believe the half bath is made for them and get quite excited over the discovery of it. The eyes of the beholder decides whether or not these details contribute to the home’s charm. This house is not for everyone. This house is perfect for someone. Every corner of the place has been lived in and its fifty-five years of witnessing life well lived overflows with memories. It is not unusual for long time locals to reminisce when stopping by. There’s a nostalgia it seems to induce in those who remember it from their childhoods that a new house could not. The house will work best for someone who isn’t sensitive to wildlife and nature in a negative way. Someone who is calm at the sight of the following will have an easier time enjoying the charm of this old Bayfield gem… Spiders, mice, garter snakes, praying mantis, wasps, earwigs, skunks, raccoons, bear, deer, and even mountain lions. One needs not be too jumpy to set a mouse trap or too squeamish to empty it to live here. One needs to be tolerant of sounds which include old house creaks, heating duct thuds, furnace blowers, bird chirps that ought to be illegal in town, and American flag swishes and clangs. The American flag waves to all, comforting the neighborhood and honoring those who have served. An apple tree in the backyard produces three different kinds of apples the years the spring freeze spares the blossoms. There are also plumb, apricot, and cherry bearing fruit trees to be enjoyed. A sprinkler system makes growing the grass in the yard easy, while mowing it is a chore for the lessee. >>>Amenities included in rent: brand new washer & dryer, a small deep freeze, access/use of two sheds, backyard deck, fenced yard with trees/grass/sprinkler system, and covered front porch. >>>Utilities are not included in rent. It is required that Lessee assume responsibility and stay current on gas & electricity for the term of the Lease Agreement. The Town of Bayfield monthly bill (water/sewer/trash) will remain in Lessor's name and be paid by the Lessor/billed to the Lessee monthly in addition to the $1500 rent. >>>Not included in rent is a Bayfield P.O. Box. In order to receive mail at this address the Lessee must pay for a Bayfield post office box through USPS in Bayfield. >>>Pets with additional nonrefundable deposit and cleaning fee. No Smoking.
