This house was built in 1969 in the style of mid-century architect Vladimir "Val" Ossipoff, regarded as the master of Hawaiian Modernism. It is constructed entirely of tongue-in-groove redwood and cedar, with a soaring pitched ceiling and floating windows indicative of the era. True to Ossipoff\'s intention to blur the lines between inside and outside, nearly half of the square footage of this home is the spectacular covered lanai, which contains the dining room, a second lounge area, an outdoor napping bed, and overlooks the lush backyard and lagoon-style pool. Hale Hokuli'i is located just steps from Keauhou Bay, a favorite destination of tourists and locals alike for paddle boarding, canoeing, and- most famously- nightly manta ray snorkel and dive tours. A smaller, secret cove, lies on the other side of the house and is a favorite spot to watch the surfers at sunset, sit with a morning coffee, or go for a snorkel. This unique property is located in an ideal spot for a relaxing vacation, or a jump-off point to explore other excursions that are unique to our beautiful island. You\'ll hear the birds singing all day, and the waves crashing in the winter months when the surf is high. This is a very safe area, and for extra peace of mind, this property is gated and fully enclosed by a beautiful lava rock wall. While it feels a world away, it is actually located just a couple of minutes from the Keauhou Shopping center with KTA grocery store, Long's drugstore, several local restaurants, and even a movie theater! The house is 5 minutes from Magic Sands Beach, 3 minutes from Kahalu\'u snorkel beach, 10 minutes to Captain Cook, 12 minutes to Kailua-Kona town, and 25 minutes from the airport. Some things to note: - The main house has two full bathrooms inside (one still under renovation, photos not available yet), as well as a half "pool bath" and luxuriously large outdoor shower near the pool. - The laundry room is not shown in photos, but has a brand new full-size washer and dryer, and is downstairs on the pool level. - This house is rich with character and charm. While many parts of the house have been renovated and has all modern appliances and conveniences, it still has much of its original 1969 charm. We love this about it and hope you do too. - The home is located in a hot and dry pocket of the island. This is good news as it rarely rains during the day so you can expect lots of sun, with some rain showers at night. - Brand new air conditioning units were installed in 2022 throughout the house to keep it cool, and the grand lanai takes advantage of the shade and breezes. - This property is only available to rent for a minimum of 30 days and so the costs of electric usage is the responsibility of guests. The home does have solar panels on the roof to keep electric bills down, but electricity costs on the island can be significant when compared to the mainland. Please be mindful of your energy usage! - We love our neighbors, so please keep noise outdoors at a reasonable level, especially after dark. - The home is treated regularly by pest control professionals to minimize unwelcome visitors. - There are several fruit trees on the property! Papaya, lilikoi, coconut, lemon, orange, and the most prolific of all... guava! You are welcome to whatever edible bounty is available. - The pool is heated thanks to the waterfall that warms the water over the lava rocks as it flows. There is not much of a very shallow end for kids, but there are lots of pool floaties for kids and adults alike!
