Settled in 1620 by pilgrims from the Mayflower, Plymouth is the oldest city in New England and one of the oldest in the nation. It was surveyed by Captain John Smith around 1616. Downtown Plymouth is located along Massachusetts Bay and is home to Pilgrim Memorial Park, the location of Plymouth Rock, the Plymouth Village Historic District, and the Pilgrim Hall Museum (where you'll see artifacts from the pilgrims).
Downtown Plymouth is much more than a national treasure -- it is a thriving hub of art, culture, and business. Residents enjoy events like the Downtown Plymouth Waterfront Festival, which features more than 230 artists, food vendors, a car show, children's activities, live entertainment, and more. Residents enjoy shopping along the harbor at Village Landing Marketplace and enjoying a craft beer at Mayflower Brewing Company as much as they enjoy touring places like the Richard Sparrow House, built around 1636.
